Introduction: This story is set in the countryside and tells the story of how a Chinese medicine doctor "Gao-Yuan" faced the changes in the political and medical systems over the past thirty years, from the founding of the People's Republic of China to the Cultural Revolution and then to the early stage of reform and opening-up. Gao-Yuan has experienced two lives: in his first life, he followed his nature, but encountered setbacks everywhere, and was not able to save his relatives.
