Chapter 1555

    Chapter 1555

It was almost midnight. Ernest was lying on the bed with his phone in hand. When Ernest got bored

of scrolling through his Facebook, he arrived at Leah''s profile.

He returned to Northern City to attend Lawrence''s funeral. Should he go and meet Leah?

In the midst of hesitation, he received a WhatsApp message from Leah.

Ernest was slightly stunned. He didn''t expect to receive Leah''s message as soon as he thought of

    her.

Ernest immediately tapped on the message and saw only six words, "Condolences to you and your

    family."

Ernest was once again shocked because he had not expected Leah to have heard of it. It seemed

that Lawrence''s death was a major event in Northern City.

Everyone in the circle was well aware of the news, and Leah might have seen the news of

Lawrence''s death from news channels or Facebook posts.

Ernest hadn''t expected Leah to send him a messagete at night. He was slightly stunned before

he replied, "Thank you, it''ste. Why haven''t you slept yet?"

In fact, the two of them had not contacted each other since thest message. Ernest had been

looking forward to hearing from Leah again, but she had never once texted him.

Leah didn''t seem to be keen on contacting him, which gave Ernest second thoughts. She might not

have the same feelings towards Ernest.

There were times when they were uncertain about each other''s thoughts, and they dared not probe

too deeply into it. They would stay polite to each other and keep it professional.

That night, at such a special time, Leah had sent him a message, which indeed surprised Ernest

    and had him feel moved.

Leah then sent another message. "I''m not feeling well. I caught a cold. I''m taking a drip at the

hospital! That''s why my message waste. Take care."

After seeing the message, Ernest was stunned as he instantly dialled her number.

When the phone rang, Leah was still in the ward. She hurriedly picked it up. "Why did you call me?"

Leah''s voice sounded a little hoarse. She seemed to be very ill.

Ernest''s voice had a faint trace of unnoticeable panic. "How did you get so sick? Which hospital are

you in? Are you alone? Is anyone apanying you?"

"I caught a cold. It''s slightly serious this time," Leah told the person on the other end of the phone.

"I''m alone. I wanted to send you a message or call you earlier, but I was very sick. I just got a little

better. I thought you were asleep, but it turns out that you''re still awake. I''m sorry to have disturbed

    your rest."

"No, I''m not in bed," Ernest said in a low voice.

"That''s good." Leah went on in a more serious manner, "Ernest, my condolences. Take care of

    yourself, alright?"

Her voice had Ernest sigh in his heart. Leah was sick, yet she was worried about him.

Ernest''s heart tensed, and he feltplicated feelings surging. While frowning, he asked, "Are you

    superstitious, Leah?"

Leah was stunned and puzzled at the same time as she asked, "I don''t know what superstitions

    you''re referring to?"

"For example, I just attended a funeral. If I visit you tonight, are you okay with it?" Ernest was a little

    excited and expectant.

    Leah was left dumbfounded.

    She wasn''t superstitious.

However, she didn''t expect Ernest would want to meet her. Leah was so excited that she forgot to

    respond for a moment.

Ernest thought that her silence meant she was unwilling to have hime over, so he exined, "If

you aren''t superstitious, I can go to the hospital and keep youpany. But if you''re concerned, I

can get someone to apany you. In short, you can''t stay in the hospital all by yourself at this

    hour."

Leah hurriedly came back to her senses and informed Ernest, "I''m not superstitious! It''s toote.

    Will that disturb your rest?"

"I don''t need to rest. I''ll head straight to the hospital right now." Ernest put his coat on and was

about to head out. His tone was insistent. As long as Leah was not superstitious, he would not let

her stay in the hospital all alone in the middle of the night.

Leah was a little worried. "Uh, Ernest, my cold is actually quite serious. If youe, I''m afraid you''ll

    catch it too."

Ernest replied, "It doesn''t matter, I don''t get sick easily. If you have the ability to make me catch a

cold, it means that your sickness this time around is strong indeed. But bring it on."

With that, he let out a small chuckle and seemed rxed. "Wait for me. I will be there soon. Send

    me your location."

    "Oh, alright," she answered.

After hanging up, Leah sent Ernest to her location.

Ernest went down the stairs and rushed over. It took him only twenty minutes to arrive at the

    hospital.

In the middle of the night, there were only a few people in the ward. It was a little cold in November.

Leah sat alone, and she was still on the IV drip.

The IV drip bag was half full. Leah looked around as if she was waiting for him.

When he arrived, she sat up straight and waved at him.

Ernest hurried over and arrived in front of Leah in a sh.

When their eyes met, both of them had slight overwhelming emotions in their gazes, but they

    concealed it well.

Ernest observed Leah. Her face was pale, her eyes were slightly bloodshot, and her nose was also

a little red. Leah seemed very ill, as she wasn''t as lively as before, but it added a strange, delicate

    beauty to her.

"How did you fall sick?" Ernest asked.

Leah smiled, then shrugged. "I don''t know, I just caught a cold from nowhere. I''ve been catching up

on work recently, so I must be fatigued. Those in the industry are all not too healthy."

"That has to be changed," Ernest said, "If your schedule is irregr, you''ll get sick easily."

"I can''t help it," she said helplessly, "I like writing at night because it''s quiet."

"You can slowly change this habit. Your priority now is to get better as soon as possible," Ernest

    demanded.

"Alright." Leah nodded obediently, "Actually, I''ve been trying hard to change the habit. But

    sometimes, I forget it."

"I''ll remind you," Ernest offered all of a sudden. "In the future, I''ll remind you every night not to stay

    upte."

"You''ll remind me?" Leah could hardly believe her ears. "Are you serious?"

After Ernest finished his words, he seemed to realize something. His expression stiffened as he

    said, "It''s true."

    Leahughed smugly.

Ernest nced at her and swiftly changed the topic. "I saw you''ve also updated today."

Leah replied, "That update was from my drafts. I''ve done drafting a week worth of articles because I

wanted to take a week off. But then, I got sick."

"Why a week off?" Ernest asked in surprise.

Leah wanted to say that she had actually wanted to visit Ennd that week, but she didn''t expect to

fall sick after she finished writing the draft.

Moreover, when Lawrence had passed away, Ernest and Gary had rushed back from Ennd to

    attend his funeral.

Everyone knew about it. Maria had told Leah in advance, but Leah was too sick. She couldn''t get up

as she would feel giddy-headed, so she slept in. In the afternoon, she was too tired and couldn''t

    even make a phone call.

Afraid that Ernest wouldn''t be able to answer the phone during the funeral, Leah only managed to

send Ernest a message after an IV drip in the hospital.

However, she didn''t expect to summon him here with a single message. It''s surprising how

everything turned out despite her ns.

Ernest sat beside her and looked at her not only gently, but it gave Leah an illusion that the person

sitting next to her was her boyfriend.

In reality, she clearly knew that the man sitting in front of her was a passive man who would not take

the initiative to start a rtionship.

Since he did not say anything, would Leah break that peaceful fantasy if she were to speak too

    soon?

Leah felt that she couldn''t make the first move because things might get awkward between them.

It was better to stay friends. Things were easier if some words were left unsaid.

"When do you finish the drip?" Ernest looked at the bag of IV drip and asked, "Do you need another

    one after this?"
