Chapter 1474
Regardless, it was almost time for her to leave, and she had to leave eventually. There was no party
thatsted forever. Maria said to Ernest, "Then, could you book a ticket for me too? We can leave
together."
"Okay." Ernest agreed without hesitation.
Just as she hung up, she was about to lift her head when Liam already held her chin and raised it to
meet his gaze.
"What''s wrong?" She was startled.
"Are you leaving so soon?" He felt as if she was eager to leave. When Ernest mentioned he was
purchasing flight tickets, she didn''t bother discussing it with him before she decided to leave.
Liam had a feeling that she could be heartless when she wanted to, and her bluntness rivalling his.
Maria didn''t seem to understand his reaction and said, "However, school''s about to start. Since
Ernest is leaving, of course I have to go with him. What''s up with you? Do you not want me to
leave?"
Liam''s expression went stiff and he felt a little embarrassed. He turned away from Maria and looked
a little sheepish.
Maria came to her senses and asked with a bright smile, "It seems like you really don''t want me to
leave, right?"
That was surely what it was. It was even more so since they had been by each other''s side for the
last two weeks. It was only natural that he would feel heavy hearted for her to leave.
However, school was going to start, and whether he liked it or not he had to let Maria go.
"I''lle back to visit you." She cupped his face and kissed him on the lips. "The moment I get the
chance I''lle back and see you, okay?"
With her reassurance, he smiled and brightened up in an instant. "Okay, it''s a promise."
"Of course." She reaffirmed him. She cocked her eyebrows. "All I ask is that you don''t find me
annoying then."
Before Liam could respond, he was interrupted by the ring of his phone.
He patted Maria on the shoulder and said softly, "Let me answer this call first."
"All right."
Maria got up and handed him the phone. She inadvertently nced at the phone and saw two
words disyed on the caller ID. "Cindy White."
She stared nkly at the screen.
Liam had caught Maria''s expression. He didn''t shy away but instead picked up the phone in front of
her.
"Miss White, what can I do for you?" Liam asked in an icy tone, sounding distant.
She couldn''t make out what was said on the other end of the phone, but Liam''s gaze grew colder
under the light. Even his side profile looked frigid, and there was a hint of dispassion along the
curled corners of his lips.
For a moment, Maria felt as if Liam was being bullied.
She knew that those people were always out to get Liam.
"There''s no need. Thank you, Miss White, for your help, but you need not waste your time on me. I
don''t need such an opportunity, thank you." When he finished, Liam hung up the phone.
Maria looked at him worriedly, only to find that he was already facing her with a gentle smile.
"Maria,e here." He patted the spot on the sofa next to him.
Maria walked over and leaned into his arms, allowing herself to be embraced by him.
He stroked her hair as if he was petting a cat.
"Have you been given an opportunity? Are you going to give it up?" she asked with concern.
"It''s not an opportunity." Liam didn''t hide and said in a low voice, "She''s pretending to be a senior
who wants to do me a favor when in reality she wants me to wag my tail and beg at her like a dog."
Maria''s chest tightened. It was the first time Liam was opening up his heart to her and told her those
things.
She felt sorry for him.
"So, you actually saw through her." She lifted her head and looked at him. "You actually knew about
her intentions, didn''t you?"
"Yes, I know it was never her n to help me. If I hadn''t gone through all these things with her
guidance these past few years, I wouldn''t have been pushed back to such a low point. I''ll admit she
was the one who picked me up, but she was also the one who sent me crashing down rock bottom."
Liam patted Maria''s back. "I''m now just waiting for the contract to expire, so that it can be ended
swiftly."
"Why do I feel like she might take revenge on you now that you''ve refused her?" Maria had a feeling
that Cindy wasn''t a nice person.
"Her revenge n has already started, and it''s all because of Celeste." Liam didn''t show much
emotion when he mentioned Celeste.
When Maria heard Celeste''s name, she nced at him worriedly. Seeing that he didn''t seem
unusual, she was relieved.
"Why are you staring at me?" Liam asked her with a smile.
Maria froze and pouted. "Well, you know."
"Are you worried that I still have feelings for Celeste? Is that why you''re feeling wary and looking at
me with thatplicated gaze of yours?"
In truth, Liam could sense Maria''s insecurity. Maria felt a little embarrassed after hearing him so
bluntly saying it out.

A blush bloomed on her little face, and she nodded and admitted honestly, "Yes, I was indeed a little
worried when you brought up Celeste. I was worried that you couldn''t forget her. After all, you had
her in your heart."
After she spoke, Maria lowered her head. She felt a little upset, but she knew that she wasn''t
entitled to feel that way.
She took a deep breath quietly. In any case, she was relieved that Celeste and Ernest were
together then.
Seeing her like that, Liam sighed and said, "It''s rare for you to be so frank with me. We have to talk
about this, because if we don''t, you''re going to carry this heavy feeling in your heart when you
leave."
Liam knew that the issue had to be solved sooner orter. He might as well bring it up sooner and
resolve the issue that was going to bother Maria when she left.
If she kept the weight festering inside her when she left, it would be even more troublesome to deal
with.
"Do you want to talk about Celeste?" Maria looked up. Rather than disappointment in her eyes, it
was filled with excitement.
To her, being able to discuss that openly meant that she would be able to dissipate the unwanted
emotions in her heart. Otherwise, it would be ufortable to bear such negative feelings.
"Yes, let''s talk about her." Liam nodded seriously. "Anyway, everything''s in the past, I have nothing
to say. Nothing ever started between me and Celeste, not to mention what happened in between. It
was just favorable impressions."
"Yes." Maria nodded. "I know, so?" "So," Liam said in a deep voice, "Maria, never forget that you''re
my woman."
Maria blinked, and the light that shone on her crystal clear eyes, looking as if it was filled with
sunlight.
"On top of that, you and Celeste are good friends, and you also live together. You will eventually see
her again. If we all meet up in the future with this weight inside of you, it would be quite awkward.
So, I thought it''d be a good idea to untie the knot in your heart."
Maria fixed her gaze on him. She knew that she would believe him no matter what he said.
The fact that he was willing to talk about it already showed his respect for her.
She believed that he really wanted to resolve the uneasiness she felt in her heart.
"I don''t have any concerns about it." Maria shook her head. "I''m just worried. I''ve always been able
to tell what''s right and wrong, so I won''t feel awkward when I face her."
"That''s great." He smiled. "I will still meet her in the future. Will you feel ufortable then?"
Maria was surprised at the question, but she didn''t answer. She just looked up at and blinked at
him.
Liam''s heart ached when he saw those big eyes of hers.
"Say something." he urged her, not wanting to see her fall into silence.
"I''m won''t feel ufortable." She shook her head. "I''m actually worried that you''re the one that
might feel ufortable. After all, you were the one who was once drawn by Celeste."
She was only telling the truth.
However, Liam instantly tightened his embrace, and his warm breath blew dangerously close to her
ear. "Are you going to continue to mock me like this in the future?"
"No, I was wrong." Maria immediately retracted and begged for mercy. "I didn''t mean to make fun of
you, and I don''t have any concerns in my heart anymore. I know that you telling me all of this today
means that you''ve already let it all go."
Hearing her response, Liam sighed in his heart in relief. It seemed like the girl really did resolve the
uneasiness she felt in her heart.
"Then, let''s not bring this up again," he said.
"All right." Maria nodded. "By the way, I have something important to tell you."
"I also have something important to say." Liam held her tightly.
"What is it?" Maria was puzzled. "You go first."
He kissed her, and his action made Maria breathless. "Weren''t you going to tell me something?"
"This is the important thing." He carried her and sauntered into the room.
An hourter, it was already ten o''clock at night when Maria suddenly remembered and said to him,
"I''m going to rmend you a book, and you''d better read it properly, okay?"
"What kind of book is it?"
"It''s a work from the inte." Maria said, "Don''t show it to anyone else, it''s only for your eyes. I''ll
send it to your phone."
"Fine," He said with ack of enthusiasm. "I''ll read it when you get back to school and when I''m left
with nothing else to do."
"Then, promise me that you''ll read it properly, okay?"
Seeing how serious she was about the request, he asked back, "Why must I read it properly?"
"Just because I like it," Maria said, "I like it, so I hope you''ll do as such."
"Okay then," Liam nodded and said, "I guess I''ll try my best to read it then."
