Chapter 452


    Today, Alexander experienced it first–hand.


    After taking a few bites absentmindedly, Lily put down her silverware and said, “I‘m going to see


    Grandpa.”


    “Okay,” Justin lightly answered as he lowered his gaze.


    Perhaps this was how the Lodge family interacted, but Alexander found it strange as a bystander.


    The Lodge family seemed indifferent on the surface. Even after not seeing each other for years, they


    showed no enthusiasm when they met. It was as if it did not matter whether or not Lily showed up.

    Although there was no heater in the room, they had prepared thick bedding alongside hot water bags.

    Meanwhile, Edward nned to stay at the nearest hotel after dropping them off and picking them up


    once they were done. However, Alexanderter received a message from Edward that the Lodge


    family had prepared a ce for him to stay.


    The Lodge family were, in fact, very caring of others, albeit barely speaking to each other while always


    putting up a cold and indifferent front.


    It was the exact opposite of the Russell family. On the surface, the Russell family would always be


    ecstatic, as if there were nothing but love among them. However, there were things they did in private


    that would never see the light of day. If Alexander had a choice, he would rather be with a family like


    the Lodges, who had cold fronts but warm hearts. They were easier to get along with, he thought.


    With that, Alexander stared at Justin thoughtfully. Then Justin looked up, and their eyes met. After a


    moment, Alexander smiled.


    As Lily headed upstairs, she was about to knock on the door before she changed her mind. Instead,


    she grabbed the handle and pushed open the door with a twist.


    For years, Wilfred had slept without locking the door. Lily was unsure whether he would be awake or


    asleep at the moment, so she carefully poked her head in to look.


    “Lily, is that you?”


    Lily immediately paused in her step before she nodded and answered with a hoarse voice, “Grandpa,

    Then she opened the door and walked in as Wilfrend turned over before propping himself up and


    leaning against his bed.


    Lily quickly looked for a pillow for him to lean onfortably and stood by his bedside.


    That was how it had always been ever since she was young. She would stand before her grandfather


    as they talked, which somehow grew into her habit.


    However, this time, Wilfred nced at her and gestured, motioning her to sit. “Sit down; let me have a


    good look at you.” His voice was not as strong as before. Regardless of how much he was in denial of


    his age, the tell–tale signs were everywhere.


    As Lily sat beside the bed, she carefully studied Wilfred‘s face. His skin had countless age spots, and


    his eyes were not as clear and sharp as before. His brows were slightly wrinkled, with two prominent


    eye bags indicating hisck of sleep. “Grandpa, do you have insomnia?” Lily asked softly.
