Chapter 297

    Chapter 297

Only after a reminder from her dad did Molly realize her mistake.

Chad put up with her whims, which was a stark contrast to his usual fair and strict approach to other

matters. Even though Chad didn''t like family members being at his workce, he still tolerated Molly

and arranged for friends to keep herpany.

Molly didn''t realize this. Mia had clear boundaries and wouldn''t disturb her husband at work no matter

how much she acted up. Neither Naomi would go to the town hall to see her husband. And Chad''s

mother, she would never show up at her father’s workce.

    Molly was the only exception.

"Dad, I got it." Molly said.

After a reminder from Hansen, Molly seldom showed up at the police station.

Chad was investigating a case involving Officer Rubin. He had his team follow him for over a month

and finally found out Officer Rubin''s secret.

Officer Rubin had a secret "home".

At first, Chad was investigating the Obsidian Cafe. Byw, public servants were not allowed to operate

home cafes. Even though Officer Rubin''s name was not listed in the registration of the Obsidian Cafe,

he was indeed involved in its management. On the surface, the cafe was supported by the Marshal

Group, but in reality, they did not have control.

Andre had looked into the finances of the Obsidian Cafe and found that the small cafe''s annual ie

was even more than that of a small enterprise, even reaching $800,000 in one year.

    Something was fishy.

However, investigation wasn''t easy because the legal entity of the Obsidian Cafe had no rtionship

with the Rubin family, and the manager and ountant of the Obsidian Cafe were separate. Moreover,

if they insisted that the money came from selling coffee, there was little the police could do.

Luckily, Chad found Officer Rubin''s weak spot. By investigating his mistress, he was finally able to

    unravel theplex case.

The interrogation process was lengthy, and Chad kept a woman in custody for a whole week.

"Marian, if someone wanted to save you, they would''ve done so by now. No one''sing, which

means they''ve given up on you. Based on the evidence we have, we can already pin your crime. You''d

better speak up, and spill something that could help you. Otherwise, given your moneyundering

charge, you''re looking at several years in prison, at least. You have no kids. When you get out of jail in

a few years, all your assets will have been confiscated. You''ll be facing life alone, and your values and

actions will not align with mainstream society. No one will take care of you. Right now, you can rely on

your youthful looks to make money, but what will you look like after you get out?" Chad said.

    Marian remained indifferent.

Officer Rubin, Rubin had already been an official for over a decade, so ordinary officers were no match

for him. Only Chad himself could handle it. Before entering the interrogation room, he told his

subordinates, "If Mollyes looking for me, don''t let her in. Send her straight to the forensic

    department to hang out."

Molly''s presence would affect his mood, so Chad made this decision in advance.

The officer nodded, "Don''t worry, Captain."

Chad walked into the interrogation room, facing a man who had been urgently summoned and was still

in his pajamas. "Officer Rubin, when did you be an official?"

Officer Rubin closed his eyes and didn''t respond.

Chad began to speak while flipping through the files in his hand, "Marian is an excellent woman who

genuinely cares for you. But people are selfish. If you had a child with her, maybe she''d keep your

secret. Regrettably, when she heard she might have to spend the next ten years in prison, and that

she''d be old and ugly when she gets out, with no kids, she started to waver."

Officer Rubin''s eyes suddenly opened, staring at Chad.

Chad continued, "Like everyone else, you have a family and kids. You only have two options: one is to

go to jail, and you''ll have someone to take care of you when you get out. The second is to be

exonerated, and Marian takes the fall for you. But by the time she gets out, the people around you

might have changed several times. What do you think a normal person would choose?"

Officer Rubin looked at the young and promising man threateningly, "Chad, you will be retaliated

    against for this."

Chad wasn''t scared at all, heughed and said, "That''s not too bad. Anyone who wants to retaliate

against me would reveal their suspicion. That way, I wouldn''t have to investigate personally."

Molly didn''t stay with the Byrne family, and Chad rarely went home either. Only once, Molly went back

to the Byrne family to get some stuff and stayed there for the night. When Chad found out about this,

he rushed home in the middle of the night to see her.

Molly didn''t know that Chad hade home especially for her. She thought Chad slept at home every

night. Seeing Chad looking so tired, his hair and beard grown long, Molly frowned, "Chad, why don''t

    you groom yourself?"

That night, she pushed Chad into the bathroom, squeezed shaving cream onto her hand, and spread it

onto Chad''s face. As she spread the cream, she said, "You look so untidy. How are you gonna get a

    girlfriend?"

Chad grabbed her wrist and had her clean her hands, "You stay outside. When Ie out of the

shower, I''ll be the Chad you''re familiar with."

    "I''ll be waiting." Molly said.

Molly waited outside the door. After Chad had showered and shaved, he regained his handsome,

    sunny appearance.

Looking at Chad, Molly couldn''t help butpliment, "Chad, your future girlfriend will be so lucky to

wake up to this face every day."

Chad looked at her andughed, "I also think my future girlfriend will be very lucky."

Molly didn''t think much of hisment and urged Chad to go to bed.

The next morning, Chad dropped her off at the Cedillo family''s front door. He didn''t bother getting out of

the car, just hauled ass to work. These past few days, their lives were a total shitshow, hardly getting

    any shut-eye.

The cops weren''t exactly sugar-coating their interrogations, as just asking questions wasn''t cutting it.

During this, they were so beat their eyes were bloodshot. Every time they were about to nod off, the

interrogation room would st some ear-piercing noise, messing with their heads, and driving them

    nearly batshit.

Chad figured it was go-time, so he whipped out a mirror and strolled into the interrogation room. He

faced Marian and said, "Take a look at your mug, it''s only been a week and you look like this. If you get

out in ten years, what''s gonna be left of you?"

The cop outside watched Chad interrogate her in the room. He was stone-cold and dead serious. He

stared at the woman across him and said, "If Officer Rubin saw your face, I don''t know if he''d puke or

    not."

"No, I can''t do this!" Marian said.

After a while, a cop pushed the door open. "Captain, Officer Rubin is looking for you."

Chad nodded at the officer, and then turned to Marian who was on the fence. He purposely closed the

gap between them, "You''re a woman, usually on the receiving end in rtionships. You love him, that''s

why you''ve held up this long. It shows you''re a sentimental person. But you''re not his wife. Your love is

    peanuts.

“Officer Rubin has been held till now, and his family and kids are all trying to bail him out, even bringing

him fresh clothes. But you? Does anyone give a damn about you? We found bills totaling two million

dors at your ce. Did you get a cent of that?

“After you were nabbed by thew, all your dough got frozen by the bank. When you get out, you''ll be

t broke. No matter how loaded you are now, in ten years, you''ll have zilch. Marian, some people are

worth a lot. But some people aren''t. If you spill the beans, I''ll vouch for you at court for cooperating, try

to get you a lighter sentence. If you y ball, ten years might turn into five.

“Do you know why Officer Rubin suddenly wanted to see me? Because he knows, no one can save his

ass anymore. If he confesses, it means he''s cooperating with the cops. His family already got awyer.

And you, till now, no one''s given a shit about you. Marian, there''s only one shot at this. I feel for you, so

I''m giving you the chance first. If you''re still stubborn, well, I''ve done all I could."

Marian lowered her head, tears rolling down from the corner of her eyes, "I''ve been with him for five

years, we met at a drinking party."
