Chapter 490 A Profound Sense Of Unease

“Since you were ill when you boarded the ne, why didn’t you tell me before you left?”

A glint shed in Lysander’s eyes as she retorted, “How did you end up in economy ss?”

She was asking about the incident on the airne..

“I went straight there. No one in economy ss would refuse to switch seats with me.”

“What about Tiffany? Didn’t she question why?” Lysander inquired.

    “No.” Josiah responded.

Lysander found it a bit peculiar. “Isn’t she curious about where you’re going?”

“I told her I had something to take care of and had to leave for a bit. She wouldn’t have pressed for

    details.”

Lysander felt that Tiffany was just too naive, almost excessively so.

Tiffany is already twenty–three years old! Even if she was well–protected, she couldn’t possibly be

this naive, could she? I hope that there are no more people like Harry or Zachary in this world.

Otherwise, given Tiffany’s current state, she would be a perfect target for men like them!

Lysander’s phone seemed to have a knack for timing, ringing at just the right moment.

However, her phone just happened to be on her left side, making it a bit inconvenient for her to

    reach it.

Upon seeing the situation, Josiah promptly picked it up.

“Who is it?” she asked, feeling a bit scared that it could be Adrian.

Things were already chaotic enough. If another person got involved, it would be aplete

    mess.

Josiah nced at the caller ID, then promptly hit the answer button. He held the phone to his ear,

his expression unchanging as he said, “Hello, Mr. Thorne.”

Upon realizing that it was Howard, Lysander let out a slight sigh of relief.

However, Josiah’s reaction was rather indifferent. Other than quietly listening to Howard’s words, he

would only asionally interject with a nomittal response, making it impossible to discern the

content of their conversation from such brief responses.

Thankfully, the phone call didn’tst long. He concluded it with a vague statement, saying. “Don’t

worry: I’m here, and everything’s fine,”

After saying that, Josiah ced the phone back beside Lysander’s pillow, seemingly having no

intention to bring up the content of the conversation.

Left with no other choice, Lysander had to ask him, “Did you tell him about my illness?”

“It wasn’t me who brought it up. He calledst night while you were asleep. The elders would have

been worried if the calls keep going unanswered,” said Josiah.

Josiah wore aplex expression and fell silent for a moment before replying. “The person who

called was a different Mr. Thorne.”

The expression on Lysander’s face changed instantly.

A different Mr. Thorne? That means….

Unlike Howard, Maverick held a particrly deep prejudice against Josiah due to past events. Even

if Lysander mentioned him to Maverick, he would explode with anger, a departure from his usual

    demeanor.

Lysander massaged her forehead and asked, “Did he scold you over the phonest night?”

    This was to be expected.

If it weren’t for the constraints of thew, Maverick would have certainly given Josiah a good

heating right at the time of their divorce.

Upon hearing this, Josiah immediately flipped out her call history to show her.

One hour and forty–two minutes? It seems the scolding went on for quite a while…

Josiah, however, didn’t seem too bothered by it. “He couldn’t help it. His daughter fell ill while away,

and I was the only one around. So, things weren’t too bad. It was clear that he was holding back.”

“His temperament is just like that.”

“I know. Do you want to continue sleeping? If you don’t feel like it, I can help you adjust your

hospital bed,” said Josiah as he looked at her.

Lysander slowly reclined back onto her pillow, her face etched with worry as she asked. “No need.

My dad. wouldn’t call thiste without a reason, though. Has something happened at home?”

Josiah’s silence was all she needed to confirm it

Lysander took a deep breath, mentally bracing herself as she pressed on, “Is it about the house? Or

    is it about Zachary?”

“It’s neither of those. It’s your sister, Michelle, She’s back from an overseas summer camp, and she

was in a car ident on the way home from the airport. Your father thought you might still have

connections at the hospital and wanted to ask if you could possibly pull some strings,” Josiah said,

    his tone softening unexpectedly.

“A car ident? How serious was it? How is Michelle doing now?” Lysander eximed in shock.

Before Josiah even began to speak, he was mentally prepared to intercept Lysander. His broad,

warm hands gently held her down on the hospital bed. What followed was a voice, seldom as gentle

as it was now, as he said, “Could you let me finish speaking first?”

Lysander’s heart was filled with anxiety. “Why are you only telling me this now? And you’re still

    eating an apple…”

Her condition after the high fever was so terrible that she could only manage to utter a few short

sentences before a splitting headaché set in, and her throat began to ache as well. She tried to

push Josiah away without any regard for her own state, but she was simply too weak to resist him.

She couldn’t even pull her 2/3

hand, which was hooked up to an IV drip, free from his grip..

“Let go of me!” Lysander eximed frantically.

Having been unjustly misunderstood, Josial’s mood was greatly affected, and he immediately

pursed his thin lips. Even so, he didn’tsh out at her. Instead, for the sake of Lysander’s distressed

concern, he repeated himself. “Calm down and listen to me.”

“All right, then. Carry on,” she said.

Josiah then patiently ryed the conversation from the previous night. “Michelle is fine. She was

said to be in a car ident, but it was really just an electric scooter. The other party, afraid of taking

responsibility, fled the scene immediately. It was a kind passerby who promptly took her to the

    hospital.”

“An electric scooter?” Lysander silently murmured the phrase, her strength that had just been

gathered nearly dissipatedpletely. With a worried gaze, she looked into the deep eyes before

her and asked, “If it was just a minor injury, why would they call me in the middle of the night?”

Josiah helped her lie back down, then took a seat himself and said, “She haspleted her

medical examination. Her bones are fine, but she did hit the ground when she fell, so she has some

bruises and will need a few days of rest. Mr. Thorne called you simply because he wanted to find a

good doctor. After all, Michelle is a girl and he didn’t want her to be left with scars.”

“Hand me your phone. I need to get in touch with my colleagues from the stic surgery

    department at the central hospital.”

    “I’ve already made the arrangements.”

A sense of relief washed over Lysander.

Fortunately, it was just an electric scooter.

However, for reasons unknown, she was still consumed by an intense feeling of unease.

“Did they manage to catch the person who ran away?”

“Not yet, but the kind–hearted person who had taken Michelle to the hospital had already called the

police. There are surveince cameras at the intersection where the ident urred, so it is only

at matter of time before they track down the person.”

“What did the police say about this?”

“There’s a high chance it will be ssified as an ident,” said Josiah, his tone indifferent.

Lysander let out a cold chuckle. “Do you believe it?”

Josiah felt her hand be even colder than before. “No, I don’t.”

    “I don’t believe it either.”
