    authorities downstairs. It mentioned that our building is scheduled for demolition.”


    Surprised by the news, Lysander questioned, “When did they announce this?”


    “They’re urging everyone to move out before Independence Day.”


    Realizing it was already July, Lysander calcted the short time frame left, barely over two months


    until the deadline in October.


    “So suddenly? Wasn’t there any warning beforehand?” Lysander pressed further.


    Maverick interjected, “There had been some whispers about it, but your mother and I didn’t really


    believe them. Our apartment is a government–subsidized unit given by my workce. We figured if


    it really came to demolition, thepensation wouldn’t be substantial…”


    Understanding the situation, Lysander remainedposed and offered a solution, “Well, since I’m


    still on break, I’ll start looking for a rental for us.”


    Laura responded with a wry smile, “Finding a rental is one thing, but what about you and your


    sister? We’ve always been hardworking, hoping that selling this house would someday help support


    you financially, but now that’s not going to happen…”


    “Don’t worry about it,” Lysander reassured her, “I’ll just need to save a little longer before I can
