Chapter 1908

    Concede?

When had he ever conceded? How could he even utter those words with a straight face?

Zoey suddenly found herself at a loss for words on how tomunicate with this kind of man-dictatorial, self-centered, and utterly oblivious to her feelings.

Her face turned pale in an instant, but considering Nn was outside, she couldn''t very well scream her lungs out. She had to appeal to his emotions and reason instead.

"You went out of your way to bring Nn here to start kindergarten, and now you''re nning to take him back. Have you even considered how he feels? Or is it that in Mr. Haskins'' world, your feelings are the only ones that matter?"

Fitch''s eyshes drooped, brushing against the icy expression on her face. He offered a self-deprecating smile, "It doesn''t matter what I do, you''ll never like me anyway."

He let go of her and turned back to the pan on the stove.

Zoey watched his back, her tone turning conciliatory.

"I don''t want to move to Greenfield. I don''t understand what you''re trying to do, Mr. Haskins. I don''t have the confidence to believe you could be interested in someone like me. With your status, you could have any woman you want."

Fitch ted the toast and scrambled eggs, his voice carrying a deeper tone of resignation.

    "Zoey, I only want you."

A sharp pain suddenly pierced Zoey''s heart, tinged with a hint of panic.

She stepped back, her expression cooling.

Fitch, carrying the tray, headed outside, "Come out and eat. After breakfast, we''ll head out."

Nn sat at the table, ncing between Fitch and Zoey.

He was perceptive, quickly sensing that something was off between the two. His eyes reddened, and he silently lowered his head, focusing on his fork and knife.

Tears fell as he ate his toast, silent as always. With his cherubic face, it was all too easy to feel his pain.

Zoey, in a flurry of panic, rushed to inquire.

"Nn, what''s wrong? Didn''t daddy make the breakfast nice?"

Nn shook his head, obediently eating, though his tears streamed even more. This belongs to N?velDrama.Org - ?.

Seeing him cry, Zoey felt a pain worse than if she were hurt herself, a feeling she couldn''t quite describe.

She quickly sat beside him, pulling a tissue to gently wipe his cheeks.

"What''s wrong? Why the sudden tears?"

Nn slowly put down his utensils, his wet eyes looking up at her.

Zoey knew this child was not one to easilymunicate. Even at school, he was often by himself, and he''d stay quiet even if he was sick enough to faint.

She sighed, softening her tone even more.

"If something''s making you unhappy, you can tell me."

    "Teacher, no, fighting."

So, the child had already sensed the tension between her and Fitch.

    Zoey looked towards Fitch, who,

"I''m not fighting with your daddy. We just have some disagreements, that''s all."

    "No, fighting."

Nn repeated those words, cautiously reaching out to grasp her sleeve.

His gaze was too pure, pitifully doe-like.

Zoey intended to scold Fitch further, but now she found herself speechless.

Fitch might be impossible, but Nn was truly adorable.

She opened her mouth, but what came out was,

"We''re not fighting, Nn. Just eat your breakfast like a good boy. I promise we''re not fighting, okay?"

Nn nodded, his nose turning red.

    "No fighting, teacher."

Zoey''s heart ached a little as she gently patted his head.
