Chapter 1764
Maja hung up the phone, her gaze resting on Ian, still unconscious in the bed.
Beck handed her a ss of water and gently guided her to sit down in a chair.
Downstairs, Dn was keeping an eye on Rocky, the husky they''d adopted, who seemed to charm
everyone he met.
The bedroom was quiet, the silence stretching on until Beck finally spoke.
"Maja, what''s on your mind? You know the brothers have got your back."
After a moment''s hesitation, Maja reached out and took Ian''s hand in hers.
"Beck, I told you before, anyone who wants to take Ian away is up to no good. There''s still one
imposter we haven''t figured out yet. It''s only when Ian is out of the picture that the fake can step in
without question. Today, Bernard wanted to take him away. If Bernard is involved in this, and Ian
ends upatose after visiting him, don''t you think things start to add up?"
Maja was known for her bold ideas, and for her willingness to act on them.
Beck didn''t think she was crazy; instead he stepped out of the room and called Dn up from the
staircase.
"Dn, what do you think?"
Dn nced at Maja, then at Ian lying on the bed.
Maja had agreed to let Bernard take Ian and Patric the next day, which meant they had toe up
with a n before morning.
Before he could formte a response, a noise at the window caught his attention.
The window swung open, and a girl around eighteen mbered in. Her hairstyle had changed; gone
was the long, ck, straight hair from her days at the research base, now reced with curly locks
and a pink hair clip to one side.
Maja recognized her; this was the girl who had clung to Dn''s side during their brief encounter in
Cania.
Frowning, Maja wondered how the girl had managed to infiltrate Greenfield Gardens. The security
had been tight, especially since Ian''s return, yet this girl had slipped through unnoticed and even
made it to the second floor.
Distrustful, Maja called Jeff on the first floor.
"Check if there''s been any suspicious activity outside," she instructed.
Jeff quickly ryed the message to the security team, but after a thorough check, they concluded
there was no sign of any intruders.
So, the defenses of Greenfield Gardens were useless against this girl.
A spark of realization lit Maja''s eyes as she heard Dn ask, "What are you doing here? Weren''t
you supposed to stay put at the hotel?"
The girl didn''t reply, instead walking over to Dn and clutching a piece of his shirt, head bowed in
silence.
Dn massaged his temples, feeling a headacheing on. He was about to have someone
escort her out when Maja interjected.
"If she can bypass the security here, could she do the same with Number Eight''s?"
Maja had met Nana in Cania, andter arranged for Nana''s brother to receive the best medical
treatment. By her calctions, he should be discharged by now.

What if Number Eight and this girl could secretly scout out Bernard''s ce? Could they uncover
something?
And if these two were as capable as they seemed, maybe they could protect Ian from the shadows,
preventing their side from being outmaneuvered.
"Number Eight is the deadliest weapon the research base ever created. She''s second only to him,
so theoretically, yes," Dn replied after releasing his shirt from the girl''s tight grip.
Maja''s lips curved into a smile.
"Dn, can you convince her to help us?"
Dn froze, hesitating for a long time before finally lifting his head, his eyes resolved.
"I can!"
Worried Maja hadn''t heard him, he firmly took the girl''s hand and promised earnestly.
"I can! She listens to me, for now. Just tell me what you need, and I''ll make sure it''s done."
