Chapter 1557
"Professor, why would the higher-ups ever let a medical prodigy like her go? The research base needs
her."
Isaac took a slow sip of his tea, her toneced with confusion.
"I still can''t wrap my head around it. How did Cynthia manage to leave back then? Even Summer didn''t
have the clout to pull that off. And I''m quite curious about Summer. His rank in the base isn''t all that

high, not like the top brass anyway. He''s more or less on the same level as me."
She was just one of the core members of the base, not quite in the inner circle of power. If she couldn''t
let someone go, how could Summer possibly have the influence?
Philip couldn''t involve himself in these matters, but he listened intently.
Isaac rubbed her temples in frustration, "And this Sarah has been butting heads with me; she even
outright rejected your nomination for chairman over the phone in the rudest way."
Sarah had the favor of the higher-ups and could almost do as she pleased at the base. Isaac dared not
cross her currently. Her only option was to vent in the privacy of her own room.
Philip remained silent. He rarely saw Sarah; she spent most of her time in thebs. If only he could
"Professor, have the higher-upse to a conclusion about the whereabouts of the weapon?"
"No, that weapon is too dangerous. It''s up to the chairpersons now. If they don''t want it, and neither do
the core members, I might be able to pull some strings for you."
"Thank you, Professor," with that, Philip stood, ready to take his leave.
At that moment, Phil walked in to assist Isaac with her nightly routine.
Philip had never thought much of it until the next morning when he saw Phil leaving Isaac''s room. It
was 5:30 AM, which meant Phil had been there all night. What had he been doing?
Phil was caught off guard by Philip''s presence, his eyes briefly flickering with surprise before he
greeted him, "Philip."
"Why are youing out of the professor''s room?"
"I''ve been staying with her."
"Staying with her? What do you mean?"
A bad feeling started to take root in Philip''s mind, and it grew as Phil said, "Just some...reproduction
stuff. The professor, she likes it."
Philip was stunned, struggling for words, and it took him for over ten seconds before the implications hit
him.
He quickly calcted their ages - Isaac was fifty, and Phil was only twenty-seven. It wasn’t of his own
ord.
Philip''s normally gentle expression faded, reced by a dawning realization. Phil''s emotional life was
like a nk te, only ever mimicking others, rarely interacting on his own.
When he mimicked Philip, he could hold long conversations, appear confident. But back at the base, he
was just a big kid, for he rarely used his own personality to interact with the world. When he was
outside, he practically mimicked another person.
"How could you—"
No twenty-seven-year-old man in a normal rtionship would be interested in a fifty-year-old woman.
"Philip, the professor asked. I wanted to make you happy," Phil looked confused, struggling to form a
coherent sentence.
Before the age of five, all Phil knew was the whiteb coats, clear ss walls, and the chill of scientific
instruments. He didn''t know the seasons.
The first time he went outside, even the slightest breeze was a novelty. So whenever he went out, he''d
return with pockets full of leaves.
Phil understood so little.
"Philip, are you angry?" Phil was visibly nervous, not oblivious to the change in Philip''s mood.
Now, the professor was busy ensuring Philip''s rise to chairman. If Phil could keep her happy, wasn''t
that a good thing? Draмanоvеls
But he knew, in that moment, a strong and secretive anger burned within him, not just anger, but also
shame.
He''d worked so hard, secured his ce in the organization BK, was set to have a seat of power in the
base, and he had piles of money.
So why hadn''t he protected the one family member he had? Or rather, had he ever considered
protecting Phil?
