Chapter 1372

    Chapter 1372

Growing up in the same neighborhood, even when hanging out with their group of friends led by Ian,

they could switch ces midway through a party without anyone noticing.

Their secret guardian had raised them uniquely, and no one else knew their secret.

They were brought up as one person, sharing even a name.

Born at the same time, they shared identical faces.

Sometimes, one of them would attend a barbecue in Greenfield, and during a switch, they''d exchange

notes on who did what and when.

Therefore, they had no secrets from each other.

The elder, whom they privately called Philip, was more gentle-natured, while the younger, dubbed Phil,

    was a master imitator.

Philip didn''t smoke, but Phil did.

For years, their body-double prank went unnoticed, giving them a thrill of fooling the world.

"Did you hypnotize Maja?" Philip asked while lounging on the couch, casually massaging his earlobe.

"Yeah," Phil replied. "Last time Tyler was eyeing my earlobe, I thought this subtle difference would give

us away. But since he didn''t suspect a thing, I''ve got to hand it to Ian. After all these years, for him to

suspect me so cleanly. That''s some sharp intuition, not everyone has that."

Phil ran his fingers through his hair. "Do you think my hair is longer than yours now?"

"Yeah, looks like it''s time for a trim."

"And this game you''re ying, how long do you n on keeping it up? You nning on making Maja

    fall for you?"

Philip furrowed his brow, he had never thought about it that way; emotions were always aplication.

His affection towards Maja was merely a necessary part of the hypnosis, to make herfortable and

    drop her guardpletely.

"Phil, I''ve told you, don''t get emotionally involved."

Phil pulled out a cigarette, lighting it with a smirk. "Alright, alright. I thought maybe your world had an

    exception."

Philip nced at him, smoking with practiced ease, and frowned.

"I told you to quit smoking, why are you still at it?"

"Can''t help it, man. You should try picking up smoking too. Then we''d be indistinguishable, truly."

The ping of a text message interrupted them. Philip looked down to see a message from Maja.

[Dr. Harrington, was it your twin I met yesterday? You two look so alike.]

His grip on the phone tightened, almost cracking it.

    [I don''t have a twin.]

[No, you do. I can tell you both apart by your scent; you''re the gentler one. Dr. Harrington, are you

ying some kind of game? I y along pretty well, don''t I? You guys like swapping identities, right?

I''ve noticed a few times, but I always know which one is you. Dr. Harrington, I really want to see you.]

The phone slipped from his grasp, nding in front of Phil who raised an eyebrow.

    "What''s up?"

Philip just threw the phone over to him.

Reading the message, Phil nearly burned his lip with the cigarette.

    "Impossible."

Since childhood, no one could tell them apart.

They were born to cover for each other, without even a formal name of their own; even their guardian

    couldn''t tell them apart.

So many swaps in Greenfield, and they were never exposed.

Even now, even with the mole secret known, no one suspected they were twins.

How on earth did Maja figure it out?

Maja, back turned to Ian, was messaging Philip.

In the next instant, arge hand reached over to grab her phone.

Like a cheating wife caught by her husband, she hurled her phone out the window in a desperate bid to

    destroy the evidence.

The phone arced through the air and vanished.

The room fell silent, and she couldn''t bring herself to meet Ian''s eyes.
