    Chapter 1361

The very thought of fruit was the furthest thing from his mind. All he could think about was the

overwhelming urge to see his daughter.

But before he could even respond, a thunderous explosion ripped through the air.

He stiffened, jolting upright from his seat.

    "Hello?"

But there was no reply from the other end, the signal seemingly sliced clean through.

Augus bolted back to his car and sped towards the source of the call, following the signal that had led

his daughter to reach out to him. It didn''t take long before the scene of the ident came into view.

Onlookers had already gathered, with reporters swarming the scene.

Two cars had collided, mes leaping high into the sky, making it impossible to discern the condition of

    the upants.

Augus felt as though he had been struck by lightning, his mind in a fog as he got out of the car. His

gaze fell to the ground, where a photography at his feet.

The woman in the photo, the one he had been searching for so long, was smiling, but it was a smile

that seemed forced, a smile that didn''t quite reach her eyes. Behind her was an unfamiliar backdrop he

    had never seen.

His heart felt like it had been hit by a stray bullet, his pupils constricting sharply.

This was the woman he loved.

This was her in the photograph.

He clenched the photo in his fist and made to run towards the zing wreckage, but a crowd of people

blocked his path, and then, a second explosion rocked the vehicles.

The cheerful voice of his daughter echoed in his mind.

"Dad, what kind of fruit do you want?"

"I didn''t want toe back, but I missed you."

"I''m on my way to see you."

As the mes engulfed the sky, something inside Augus seemed to puncture his soul, leaving him

    feeling utterly drained.

He opened his mouth to speak, but words failed him.

After a long moment, he shakily took out his phone and dialed Dr. Herrington''s number.

"Dr. Herrington, my daughter, she’s dead."

But it wasn''t Dr. Herrington who answered; it was Maja.

"Dr. Herrington''s been injured. There''s been an ident, a shooting, and he''s in the hospital. Can I

    help you with something?"

Dr. Herrington sat quietly on a white hospital bed nearby, seemingly condoning Maja''s overstepping.

    "Maja, who''s on the line?"

He was weakened by his gunshot wounds and soaked to the bone.

    "I don''t know."

    Maja handed him the phone.

As Dr. Herrington took it and saw the caller ID, he knew instantly who it was.

    "Mr. Sanders."

Augus was silent for a few seconds before he asked in a pained voice.

    "Dr. Herrington, my daughter."

"Mr. Sanders, I took precautions to keep her from being targeted, switching between two cars. I never

imagined both would crash. I ended up in the water with gunmen waiting for me. As for your daughter,

I''ve lost contact, and it doesn’t look good. You might want to ask your eldest son or Judith. I didn''t tell

you the truth this afternoon because I knew that if the real heir to the Sanders family returned, she''d

    face insurmountable obstacles."

A vice seemed to grip Augus’s heart.

"At the very least, let me know the child''s name."

"Jolin. Her name is Jolin. She was raised in Crystalbrook Valley, and her age was deliberately

    understated by a few years."

Dr. Herrington spoke with a hint of a smile in his eyes, but through the phone screen, Augus couldn''t

    see it.

He just stood by the roadside, staring at the still-raging fire, feeling as if everything had fallen into

    silence.

And after the silence came a boundless rage.

    Ovee by shock, Augus fainted.

Dr. Herrington hung up and, with an unexpectedly kind gesture, arranged for someone to pick up

    Augus.

Then he tossed the phone aside and looked at Maja indifferently.

Maja smiled at him, "What''s wrong?"

Dr. Herrington chuckled lightly, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear.

    "Nothing at all."
