Chapter 1355
Phelps returned to his vi, the cool evening breeze whispering through the palm trees. As he pushed
open the door, he found Maja curled up on the couch, a small, slumbering bundle.
He paused mid-step, a frown knitting his brow, and gently nudged her.
“Maja?”
Even in sleep, she frowned, and upon waking, she still felt weary.
“Dr. Herrington?”
“Why are you sleeping here? Go upstairs to bed.”
Maja sat up slowly, yawning and pointed to the cell phone on the coffee table.
“I’ve been calling Ian repeatedly with your phone. No answer. I’m worried something may have

happened to him.”
“He’ll be fine. But you, you look pale.”
“Do I? I don’t know. The more I sleep, the more tired I feel.”
She leaned back, her eyelids heavy, seemingly oblivious to Phelps''s words.
Phelps turned to the housekeeper standing discreetly at a distance.
“How much did you give her?”
“Sir, the maximum dose you advised.”
Phelps watched Maja’s face, then waved his hand in front of her eyes.
She looked up, offering a weak smile. “Dr. Herrington, what’s wrong?”
“Maja, just focus on this,” he said, pulling a shiny object from his pocket.
When Maja awoke, her body felt drained, which was odd considering she''d slept all night. Rubbing her
temples, she descended the stairs to find Phelps lounging on the sofa, reading the newspaper.
“Dr. Herrington, aren''t you going out today?”
“No need. I met with my contactsst night. Today, we rx.”
Maja grabbed his phone and dialed Ian’s number again.
“Maja, what will you do when you find Ian? What do you want to tell him?”
“To be with him, of course.”
“Do you remember the way you escaped? We could tell Ian, maybe revisit the ce. See who exactly
has been holding you captive.”
Frowning, Maja thought for a moment and then shook her head naturally.
“I can’t remember. I think their torture has left me a bit scattered. Right now, I just want to reach Ian.”
Phelps looked up, finally fixing his gaze on her.
“I met with the Sanders familyst night. Judith is in some trouble, and now Dn is pressuring Ian to
marry her. If Ian refuses, the Sanders family wille after him.”
Maja’s heart skipped a beat.
She despised that Dn.
Dn’s indulgence in Judith knew no bounds. Even if Judithmitted murder, Dn would cover it
up.
But the Sanders family was influential, especially in North America.
“Maja, how about you meet with Dn? Negotiate? You know, Mr. Sanders asked me to find his
daughter, and I have a lead. But, I’m worried about the trouble it might bring me.”
He leaned in, his voice a whisper.
“I’ve brought Miss Sanders here. I’ll take her, and you, to meet Dn.”
“Dr. Herrington, haven’t you told Mr. Sanders?”
“I thought about it. But Dn now holds the power in the Sanders family. If he insists on protecting
Judith, Mr. Sanders could be in danger. I hesitated and decided to probe Dn first.”
It made sense.
Maja couldn’t understand why, but she instinctively wanted to trust Phelps. A voice in her mind kept
hypnotizing her: trust him, trust him; he won’t harm you.
“Maja, look at this. When you see it, choose me without hesitation, understand?”
Phelps showed her a silver ring on his finger.
“When I twirl it, you must listen to me, unconditionally.”
Maja frowned, feeling like she was unable to see what was in front of her.
“How much today?” Phelps asked the housekeeper.
“The same, sir. The maximum.”
He nodded, satisfied, and his fingertips grazed Maja’s chin.
“Agree by nodding.”
Maja nodded slowly, unaware of what she was consenting to.
“Let’s go see Dn. You’re still unwell. Shall we administer your medication first?”
“Sure.”
Maja lowered her eyes, docile as a puppet.
Phelps picked up a syringe from the side table and injected it into her arm.
“It won’t harm you, just make you morepliant. It’s a new form, still unsure of the side effects. But
whatever they may be, I can save you.”
Maja extended her arm quietly, allowing the substance to enter her bloodstream.
