    Chapter 1318

Tyler paid no attention to her, mming his foot down on the elerator.

    Chaos. Everything was in chaos.

Ian had left the country, and Fitch was dead.

It was as if an invisible force loomed overhead, manipting the fate of Greenfield.

After driving a few miles, Tyler hit the brakes hard.

He frowned, pulled out his cell, and dialed Ian''s number.

"Ian, it came back to me. Fitch said he''d be all in on that task you gave him. Before he headed out to

Crystalbrook Valley, he was digging through hospital archives."

Ian stood by a window, gazing into the distance, mindful of the time difference.

"Tyler, hold off on any moves. I''ve got my people on it," Ian said.

"How can I just sit here? Do you have any idea how freaked out I am? I''m scared Phelps or I could be

next, and we still don''t know who the enemy is. Ian, it doesn''t feel real that Fitch is gone. He shouldn''t

    have died like this."

Ian took a deep breath. "I''ll be flying back soon."

    "Have you lost your mind?"

Tyler roared, then lowered his voice.

"Things are a mess here in Greenfield, especially since you left. Bernard''s been out cold, hasn''t woken

up yet. Without someone to cover you up top, even your father is talking about cutting you off from the

Raymond n. If it weren''t for the shares you hold, you''d be out on your ear already. The Raymonds

are all worried about Eric, thinking you''re envious, that you can''t stand him alive and well, so you

decided to take him out. People working in this industry have bought into this story, too. After all, you

were aggressively taking over the Morris holdings, leaving no room for your kin. They think you''re

    capable of anything."

Tyler pulled out a smoke but remembering the charred corpse he had seen, felt a pang in his heart.

"Ian, don''te back yet. The Haskins are on this too, and so are the authorities. Flying back into this

storm is like walking into the line of fire. Finish what you''ve got going on first."

After hanging up, Tyler''s gaze was dark as he stared ahead.

He rarely visited the Bennitts these years, and since they stayed out of such affairs, they couldn''t be

    much help with this investigation.

Rubbing his temples, he drove back to the hospital.

Back at Phelps'' office door, he pushed it open to find Phelps with a cigarette between his fingers,

staring out the window lost in thought.

"Phelps, since when do you smoke?"

Phelps flicked the butt away, his tone indifferent. "Picked it up abroad. You and Fitch asked the very

    same thing."

Tyler''s eyes lingered on his fingertips, his own eyes reddening.

"Yeah, with what happened to Fitch."

A knock from outside, "Dr. Herrington, emergency surgery."

Phelps grabbed his white coat, ready to leave, then nced at Tyler. "Go get some rest. You look

    terrible."

Tyler nodded, but once Phelps left, he felt aimless. He sat on the window seat, drew the curtains to

hide himself, inhaling the antiseptic scent of the hospital, his head throbbing.

    At six in the morning.

Phelps re-entered, shedding his white coat.

His phone rang. Whatever was said on the other end turned his tone icy.

    "No sign of him?"

    "Where could he have gone?"

"Keep searching, and keep an eye on the Haskins'' moves."

With that, he stepped out, not noticing the curtain twitch.

Tyler sat hidden, silently scrolling through his phone. He didn''t leave, enveloped in silence, lost in

    thought.

Five minutester, the office door swung open again.

Phelps stood at the threshold, calling into the room.

    "Tyler?"
