    Chapter 1311

Fitch was a man of few words, but even he couldn''t help but let out a string of expletives.

    "Damn it!"

He hurled the coffee mug in his hand against the wall where it shattered into a thousand pieces.

"I need to get out of this country."

Tyler, on the other hand, instantly regained hisposure. The Bennitts didn''t have tight connections

with the big shots, but Fitch''s phone was under surveince around the clock.

"If you leave, who''s gonna talk down the guys gunning for Ian? I say you stay put. Maybe Ian needs

your help on the inside. Let''s wait for him to reach out to us."

Both were genuinely concerned for Ian.

Fitch lit up a cigarette, his eyes gathering storms of frost.

Maja, oblivious to the chaos her departure had stirred, woke up four dayster.

Her sense of smell had sharpened oddly, so she immediately noticed the air wasn''t the same as in

    Greenfield Gardens.

On high alert, she felt around with her hands.

Sensing someone beside her, she turned towards the soft breathing.

    "Who''s there?"

K didn''t wear his mask this time, speaking in a gentle tone.

    "Wee back."

A chill ran down Maja''s spine. How did she go from Greenfield Gardens to waking up next to this man?

"Ian personally handed you over to me, Maja. Your mind''s been filled with nothing but young love, but

    he''s after something greater."

    "What do you mean?"

K chuckled softly, rising to pull back the curtains.

The sunlight outside was brilliant, shining over one of North America''s most prosperous areas.

"You''re set to be the future leader of BK, a shadowy organization that could bring danger to Greenfield,

even to the nation. Why else wouldn''t he find a well-matched woman and settle down?"

Maja fell silent, her trust in Ian unwavering.

She remembered his words, to live well, that he would fight to see her again. Her fists clenched under

the covers, and when she looked up, her eyes betrayed shock and bitterness.

    "I don''t believe it."

"Before handing you to me, he spoke with Bernard. You know who Bernard is, right?"

Maja fell quiet again, her head drooping.

    The man patted her shoulder.

"You''ll regain your eyesight in a month. Then, I''ll teach you how to be a proper leader."

    "What about Lillian?"

"No one knows why the Holy Daughter vanished. Once you''re in charge, you can use BK''s power to

    investigate—provided you earn my approval."

Maja''s grip on the bedsheets tightened.

"What do I need to do for your approval?"

"It''ll be tough, but I won''t let you die. Also, here''s a secret. Ian''s a fugitive in his own country now, with

an international warrant out for him. He''s no longer the untouchable CEO. He''s a suspect."

Maja had nned toy low and secure her position, but the news made her shudder uncontrobly.

She wanted to ask, "Why? What happened to Ian back home?"

But her resolve silenced her. The man was likely testing her, to see if she could remain calm at the

    mention of Ian.

Her palms nearly bled from clenching.

"Right now, I just want to secure my leadership and find out what happened to Lillian."

The man leaned in close, scrutinizing her face for any sign of deceit.

"Maja, I''ll trust you for now. You haven''t let the Holy Daughter down, even if you''re no match for her.

You are her heir, after all."

Maja''sshes fluttered down, suppressing her turmoil.

"Why me? I''m a child of misfortune."

He chuckled after a pause. "How do you know you''re ordinary? Being chosen proves you''re not."

Maja detected the brush-off in his voice.

She said no more, leaning back in quiet resolve.

Thinking of Ian twisted her heart with pain.

"Are you rested? It''s time to head to the training grounds."

His tone was indifferent, no trace of pity for her blindness.

Maja had made up her mind and nodded without hesitation.
