Chapter 1295

    Chapter 1295

Maja was already delirious from pain, but she heard the words Ian muttered crystal clear.

    What has he understood?

She wanted to grip his sleeve tighter, but he was just holding her close.

Maja felt as if she was submerged in water, her body soaked through.

Ian turned to the two men standing nearby.

“Don’t you have any painkillers? Aren’t they working?”

Phelps scanned Maja’s face before replying, “I do have a painkiller, but it will only relieve her pain for

three days. After that, the pain will return twice as hard.”

Patric shot him a surprised nce. It wasn''t every day that someone from a research base had

    painkillers on hand.

“Use it. I can’t bear to see her in pain anymore.”

Ian’s voice was hoarse, his eyes wide as Phelps pulled out a syringe.

With a surge of strength from nowhere, Maja grabbed his wrist.

“Ian, I won''t use it. I know what you''re nning, but I don''t want to go. I want to stay with you.”

These words had drained all her energy, but she didn’t know how pale her face was.

Drained of color and blind, to say she was in a sorry state would be an understatement.

How could Ian bear to see the woman he loved like this?

“Maja, let me give you the painkiller.”

    “I don''t want it.”

But before she could finish her sentence, she almost passed out.

Phelps paused, turning to Ian again.

“Are you sure you want to do this? Are you nning on sending her away on the third day when the

    painkiller wears off?”

Ian nodded with difficulty. He had no other choice.

Maja had once told him about Mr. K. Whoever he was, at least he would spare Maja’s life. She had also

mentioned something about a leader. Now, she was being punished for disobedience.

Ian’s hand clenched into a fist. He thought bing the CEO of the Raymond Corporation, partnering

with Bernard, and taking over the undergroundbat pit would enable him to protect the one he

thought was the most important to him.

But it seemed he was still too weak.

With a tissue in his hand, he gently wiped Maja’s forehead, palms, and neck.

Phelps injected the painkiller, reminding, “Once you’ve decided, remember the precise time when the

drug wears off. If the pain hits her again, she might lose her sanity.”

Ian’s eyes reddened as he held her hand tightly.

    “I understand.”

    Belonging ? N?velDram/a.Org.

He wasn’t sure who he was responding to, just mumbling these words unconsciously.

Phelps stood up, slowly packing his medical kit.

“Ian, I have a surgery tonight. I''ll leave first. I don’t have more of this drug. I got it from someone abroad

and haven’t used it until now. It’s surprising how handy it became.”

    “I understand, Phelps. Thank you.”

Phelps gave a nod, his white coat making him seem detached.

He stood up, nced at Patric, and left.

Patric watched his retreating figure, trying to remember where he had met him before.

Bernard’s men who had been waiting outside walked in, heading straight to Patric’s side.

    “You can go back now.”

Patric knew he hadn’t been much help here, but he quickly said to Ian, “Ian, the moment I give away

that chip, I''m a dead man. Either I spend my life confined in Greenfield under Bernard’s control, or I die

the moment I step out of it. When you asked Bernard to deal with me, did you ever think about what

    would happen to me?”

Ian lowered his eyshes, saying nothing.

A fleeting hatred shed through Patric’s eyes, “I don’t know why, but I’ve always found you irritating. It

would be nice if I could get rid of you.”

And that persistent Eric; every time he heard his voice or saw Ian’s face, he would feel particrly

    agitated.

He had been asking Eric about the details of the human experiment, but Eric kept his lips sealed.

If it wasn''t for Maja, Eric would probably still be silent.

    Damn it!

He was so angry he wanted to kill someone, but he couldn’t beat Ian, nor could he kill Eric. It was

    frustrating!

Ian’s gaze remained locked on Maja.

The furrow in her brow had gradually smoothed out, and her face softened, showing that the painkiller

    was working.

Ian exhaled a sigh of relief, lifting her and carrying her to the bathroom upstairs. He then gently ced

her in a bathtub filled with warm water.

She had broken into a sweat earlier.
