Chapter 1283
In an instant, she became frantic, her eyes darting towards the source of the sound.
"Ian, are you alright?"
Ian held her back, pressing her gently onto the couch.
"I''m fine, just stay still."
Tears welled in her eyes instantly.
"I''m sorry, I''m truly sorry. I thought someone was impersonating you. I smelled something off about you,

felt the floor different beneath me. Was I moved somewhere else? Was I just brought back?"
Her mind was a whirlwind.
Ian held her hand, his chest still being stitched up.
"Maja, it was just a nightmare."
Maja was speaking incoherently. To an outsider, it might seem as though she''d lost her mind.
"I didn''t."
Her voice trailed off as she heard Phelps cautioning Ian.
"Avoid water near your wound, be careful of a simr ident happening. If that knife had hit your
heart, no one could''ve saved you."
Phelps'' words hit her like a punch, freezing her instantly.
She almost killed Ian.
Had he not evaded her attack, he would be dead.
A cold sweat trickled down her back, her voice failed her.
But she still had so many questions. Phelps had told her it would take at least three days for her to
regain her voice, yet she was already speaking after a single night. Why?
"Ian, why can I speak?"
She felt like a moth trapped in the darkness, battering itself against invisible walls, unable to find an
exit.
Ian held her hand, urging her to calm down.
"You''ve been unconscious for four days, running a fever. It broke just a couple of days ago. You must
be disoriented from the illness. I''m okay."
She had been unconscious for four days? But why hadn''t she felt anything?
"And the incense in the house, why is there suddenly incense?"
"I asked Phelps to get it. You mentioned having trouble sleeping, this incense is supposed to help."
But she was sure she had felt a floor different from the one in Greenfield Gardens.
Her head throbbed with a pain so intense it was unbearable.
Ian''s wounds were properly dressed now. He pulled her into his arms.
"Did a nightmare scare you?"
Maja''s forehead was slick with cold sweat, she didn''t know what to say, still feeling guilty for hurting Ian.
Tyler chimed in from the side.
"This time it was an ident, what if it turns into a homicide next time? I think she should see a shrink.
Maybe her time at Eric''s mansion has caused some psychological issues she''s not aware of. Ian,
you''re being too vulnerable around her, it''s dangerous."
Fitch nodded in agreement, "We should get a psychologist for her. She''s not making much sense. We
may not be so lucky next time."
Ian held her close, gently kissing her cheek in reassurance.
Maja began to doubt herself, questioning whether she had a mental issue.
At one moment, she genuinely believed she was speaking to someone other than Ian, and felt like she
was trapped in a different ce.
But this was Greenfield Gardens, and she was living under Ian''s watchful eyes, he wouldn''t let anything
happen to her.
Maja clung onto Ian''s arm, her voice a mere whisper, "Maybe we should call a psychologist, I might be
sick."
Ian pulled her close, "You''re not sick. It was just a nightmare. Let''s not talk about this anymore."
Fitch and Tyler looked at him disapprovingly, it seemed like he was willing to risk his life for Maja.
Maja couldn''t see their expressions, so naturally, she didn''t see Ian warning them with a re.
Fitch left Greenfield Gardens feeling a bit irritated. The Olson and the Casson families had been
reaching out to him, most likely wanting Ian to apologize, but given Ian''s current state, he hardly had
the mind for such matters.
He got into his car, lit a cigarette, and drove off to the hotel.
Zoey had been trying to reach Maja these past few days, but someone else always answered the
phone. Thest time it was Ian who picked up, saying Maja needed some rest and for any urgent
matters regarding thepany, they could contact him.
Although she wasn''t very fond of Ian, hearing his voice somewhat reassured her.
At least it meant Mr. Pennyfeather was alright.
As she finished organizing the reports for the day and was about to leave the office building, she saw
her ex-boyfriend in the lobby.
Murray had married Evelyn. The initial days of their marriage were prosperous, thanks to Evelyn''s
wealth.
That was why he had left Zoey to be with her.
But after living together for nearly two months, he discovered Evelyn was being unfaithful, flirting with
other celebrities.
Coming from a modest background, even though he knew he was being cuckolded, he dared not
speak up.
Whatforted him was that Evelyn''s father genuinely liked him and even got him a high-ranking job
at Sunshine Realty.
From a manager, he became an executive overnight, thanks to his father-inw, which naturally
attracted gossip.
Luckily, his work ethic wasmendable, and he quickly proved his worth.
But he was exhausted. Every day, he''d return home only to be berated by Evelyn for smelling of
alcohol.
If it were Zoey, she would have helped him out of his coat the moment he got home, prepared a
hangover cure, and helped him to bed, taking care of everything.
Evelyn, being a rich heiress, was not used to serving others.
She also despised Murray''s mother, and every time she visited, Evelyn would mock her for being poor.
