Chapter 883

    Chapter 883

    Seven in the evening.

After knocking off work, Maja hopped into her ride.

Zoey was still ying the role of her/driver, taking her back to Rosewood Manor.

Maja was beaten today. Ever since Jeff dropped the bomb on her, she’s been on edge, just trying to

    keep her calm.

When Zoey steered the car onto a deserted road, she had this gut feeling that they were being tailed

    by a few vehicles.

“Ms. Pennyfeather, those cars behind us.”

Before she could finish her sentence, she saw those cars speed up and charge straight at them!

Zoey, horrified, mmed the gas, her face turning as white as–a–sheet.

But her driving skills were just so–so and she couldn’t shake off the cars chasing them.

In a sh, they were surrounded by three cars.

Maja straightened up in the backseat, her eyes icy cold. After a while, she finally spoke, “Zoey, how

    good a swimmer are you?”

    “Not too shabby.”

“Can you look out for yourself?”

    “Yes.”

“Drive the car into the river. Once we’re in the water, save yourself first.”

    “But, Ms. Pennyfeather.”

Zoey’s palm’s were already drenched in sweat. Driving into the river was basically a death wish, wasn’t

    it?

“Zoey, if we want to live, this is our only option.”

Those cars were out for blood. It was clear they were looking to do them in.

They were as good as dead if they didn’t take a gamble.

Zoey, with her eyes shut, drove straight onto the bridge, smashing through the railings, the car

    plunging into the river.

The loud crash grabbed the attention of nearby cars, many of which pulled over.

The moment they hit the water, Zoey rolled down the windows and also helped Maja roll hers down.

Maja wanted to swim out, but she hit her head hard when the car went in. Feeling dizzy, coupled with a

strong sense of vertigo, she didn’t have much air, left when they went under.

The moment the rushing water hit her, she lost her breath and felt a strong sense of suffocation.

Zoey’s swimming skills were barely enough to save herself. She was initially swimming up, but seeing

Maja not following, she didn’t think twice and quickly swam back.

She decided that even if it meant risking her life, she couldn’t let Ms. Pennyfeather get hurt.

But just as she was about to turn back, a figure dived in from the surface, quickly swimming towards

    the car.

Zoey didn’t see his face, but judging by his swimming skills, she knew she’d only get in the way if she

returned, so she decided to swim up.

Just as Maja was on the brink of suffocation, a pair of hands pulled her out.

She was already dizzy fromck of oxygen and couldn’t see his face.

She cked out and felt like her chest was about to explode from the water pressure.

    Was she about to die?

The man cradled her waist, and after reaching the shore, heid her on the grass nearby.

The bridge in the distance was a sea of activity, with police and onlookers, even reporters, shown up.

Colored lights were shing, and police were shouting through a megaphone.

Some good Samaritans were diving in to save people, but it was eerily quiet where Maja was.

The grass here was thick, and the night was not lit by streetlights, only the faint light reflected from the

    river in the distance.

Despite the dimness, it was enough for him to see her face.

She was lying in the grass, soaking wet, her face as pale as a ghost, and her lips were also very pale.

She thought she was about to die, feeling like she couldn’t breathe, as if she was walking towards

    death.

She felt someone pressing on her belly.

Maja spat out some water, coughed a few times, then felt some air being passed into her mouth.

This soft touch was too real and natural as if it had pulled her back from death’s doorstep.

In a daze, she heard a man gently asking.

“Why are you so careless? Are you feeling a bit better?”

Maja couldn’t see anything in front of her, just recovering from severe oxygen deprivation.

Everything was nk. Feeling that the person was about to leave, she quickly reached out and

    grabbed his sleeve.

But the man just let her go, saying.

    “Someone’sing.”

    Maja cked outpletely.

Before she woke up, she smelled the strong odor of disinfectant, andn was grilling the doctor.

“Didn’t you say she’d wake up soon? Why is she still unconscious? Are you ipetent?”

Doctor, “Mr. Raymond, Ms. Pennyfeather suffered severe oxygen deprivation. It might take some

    time.”

“If she dies, this hospital is going down, too!”

Doctor, “Yes, Mr. Raymond, please calm down.”

How couldn calm down? His heart was numb by now, especially when he saw the car’s license te

on the news. When he got to the scene, they were still fishing for the car, and he almost lost it.

They searched several rounds in the water but couldn’t find Maja, only to find her in the grass nearby.

Relief washed over him like a wave.

He would never upset her again, and he just hoped she would wake up.

Just as he was thinking this, Maja opened her eyes.

Her head was pounding, and she sawn anxiously leaning against her bed as if afraid she would

    suddenly disappear.

She frowned, Did you save me?”
