Chapter 654
“Grandpa Holden, you shouldn’t get involved in this stuff. Leave it ton.”
A smile spread across Holden’s face as he gently patted Maja’s back. But thinking about her divorce
fromn, he sighed deeply.
Sensing that Holden still had something to say, Maja had Maria bring in a cup of coffee.
Holden seemed hesitant, staying silent for ten minutes before revealing what he had kept hidden in his
heart.
n grew up with me in the military. The Raymond family never really looked after him, but the kid is
really something. He spent three years overseas and came back wealthier than the entire Raymond
family. No one knew that he was the mastermind behind the biggest acquisition case on Wall Street.
He wasn’t even twenty then, and no one knows how manypanies he managed to acquire in the
process.”
Holden took a sip of coffee as he spoke.
“Man only agreed to take over the Raymond Corporation because I was there. The position was
originally meant for his brother Eric. Ian is a military brat, and I’ve always trusted him, but I’ve also
worried about him losing control one day. Carl Raymond and Dennis Raymond always thought I was
ying favorites, thinking I cared too much aboutn. But in reality, I was just trying to keep him in
check. Maja, I initially wanted to pass this responsibility onto you, but he didn’t like you, and you didn’t
like him.”
Maja’s heart jolted a bit. Holden had definitely never said these things to anyone else.
People had spected thatn had assets overseas, but no one knew how much exactly.
Now Holden gave a somewhat clear answer. Ian’s overseas assets were not less than the Raymond
family’s, so to him, the Raymond family was disposable.
“Grandpa Holden, it’s no use talking about this now. I’m sorry, butn and I were married for three

years and we never had any feelings for each other.”
“I didn’t say all this to try and bring you back. I just wanted someone to talk to. I heardn wrecked
Carl’s vi. Now thatn has lost his memory, his understanding of familial love and romantic love,
which was already nonexistent, is even more so now, I don’t want to discuss this with other members of
the Raymond family.”
Grandpa Holden gently patted Maja’s hand.
“I’m getting old and starting to think about the future. I just want someone to chat with. Don’t worry, I’ve
already promised you that I won’t try to get you andn back together. After this, I’m going to go into
hibernation and not see anyone. If you need anything, just call the butler.”
Maja nodded.
Holden indeed just came to chat with Maja. He stayed for an hour and then left.
Maja was well aware ofn’s upbringing, as well as having experienced firsthand him pointing a gun at
her.
Holden was not exaggerating. That man always appeared to be polite and cultured, but if he ever
dropped that facade, it would be hell for others. Holden still held the only string that could controln,
but Maja really didn’t want to take on that responsibility.
She couldn’t control others either.
Maja’s mind was in chaos for a moment, but she quickly regained her calm.
She was about to start dinner when the private investigator she sent to Crystalbrook Valley finally
contacted her.
“Ms. Pennyfeather, we’ve found some leads on Neil’s child, but we haven’t found any clues about your
birth information.””
Maja was confused. The children were switched at the same time, so why were there leads on the
other child, but nothing on her own background?
“Ms. Pennyfeather, Lillian’s child was taken to Greenfield. We learned that the child was bought by
someone from the Shepard family. But you’ll have to investigate the specifics yourself. Our capabilities
are limited, and it took us a long time to find even this small lead.”
The Shepard family?
At this, a sense of foreboding shed through Maja’s mind.
Wasn’t it exposed that Carlene Shepard wasn’t a child of the Shepard family?
Maja immediately felt a headache. Recalling that Grandpa Holden once said that it was Phelps who
took Carlene away, she rushed to the hospital.
Phelps had already done a paternity test for Carlene and the Sanders family, and Carlene had been
taken to the police station.
When Maja arrived, Phelps had just finished a surgery and was taking off hisb coat.
“Dr. Herrington.”
Phelps looked up, looking somewhat surprised, “Ms. Pennyfeather.”
Maja had run up. Even though it was cold outside, ayer of sweat appeared on her nose.
“Do you still have Carlene’s DNA information? I want to do another paternity test with her and some
other people.”
“Yes, I’ll contact my colleagues. You can just talk to them.”
Maja sighed in relief, went to another building as directed by Dr. Herrington, and submitted Carlene and
Neil’s DNA information.
The waiting process was nerve–wracking. Maja prayed silently in her heart, hoping that Carlene
wouldn’t turn out to be Neil and Lillian’s biological daughter.
