Chapter 514

    Chapter 514

After hanging up the phone,n felt like the pile of documents in front of him had lost all meaning.

The thought of Penny being with another man tonight was more than he could bear.

Back at the hotel,ny on the bed, still able to smell her lingering scent on the sheets. The fragrance

seemed to permeate every pore of his body from all directions.

The window in the corner was open, and the breeze from outside caused his hair to quiver slightly.

He held the cigarette between his fingers, feeling as though the wind carried her scent with it.

He remembered pressing her against this window; her fearful yet reliant look stirred something in him,

down hard, as if to suppress the excitement coursing through his body. He took out his phone and sent

    a message to Maja.

    “Are you asleep?”

He also seldom initiated a chat with anye at night, let alone with a woman.

    But Maja was his exception.

“What are you and your husband doing?”

Because Maja didn’t respond,n sent another message.

Maja had already fallen asleep, but she was having a nightmare.

She dreamt of the child that was forcefully taken from her, of the baby’s body in the hospital trash can,

    and of a tiny hand.

She woke up in a cold sweat.

She stared at the ceiling, taking deep breaths.

Maja had researched painless abortions before. She knew the operation could only be done in the

early stages of pregnancy, when the baby hadn’t fully formed in her womb yet.

She had the nightmare because the forced abortion had put too much pressure on her.

She knew the Raymond family didn’t like her, but she never expected her dignity to be trampled on like

    this.

    She would always remember this.

Her feelings forn hadn’t reached the point of love, but the pain he inflicted had been seared deeply

into her heart, like a nail hammered into a bone.

So, when she saw the message fromn, she didn’t reply. Instead, she got up, poured herself a ss

of water, and after drinking it, felt slightly calmer. Then she went back upstairs.

However, she was unable to fall–back asleep. So, she started checking the progress of the Greenfield

Gardens project and reviewed some documents from the Pennyfeather group.

Maja, on the other hand, was engrossed in her work until dawn.

After breakfast, she checked the surveince she had installed at the RosenGarden house.

Since that night, there had been no issues with the surveince. It seemed like no one had entered her

room in the past few days.

She needed to pick up some art supplies, so she drove to RosenGarden.

It was seven in the morning, and there weren’t many pedestrians on the road.

She had just sent a message to the property management to inquire about the situation when her car

was violently hit. Her head mmed into the steering wheel, blurring

    her vision.

In the ensuing chaos, she saw a tall man holding a baseball bat approaching her.

    “Bang!”

    The car window was smashed.

The next moment, she was dragged out of the car, her hand pressed hard under the man’s foot. Her

pupils contracted as she saw the man raise the baseball bat above his

    head.

Maja almost wanted to block the blow with her head. This was the hand she used to paint. It couldn’t be

    injured.

    “Stop, please don’t!”

But the baseball bat had alreadye crashing down!

A full–force swing from a grown man Maja heard the sound of her fingers breaking.

Maja’s vision went dark, the pain almost causing her to faint. Two of her fingers were shattered.

The property management called, and the man, perhaps afraid of being discovered, quickly left.

Everything happened in less than three minutes.

The intense pain made it impossible for Maja to hold her phone. She was trembling, crawling to answer

the still–ringing phone with her other hand.

Her forehead was covered in sweat. At this moment, she was struggling to sit up, her broken fingers

bent in a strange way, a sight that was heart–wrenching just to look at.
