Chapter 161
Maja’s phone was tucked securely in her pocket, yet she had no idea who was calling her that night.
Even though she had silenced her phone, the calls kept rolling in, one after the other.
The ringing seemed incessant, as if it wouldn’t stop until she picked up.
Things had escted to the point where Maja felt cornered. She was already contemting how she’d
exin herself oncen finally recognized her.
It was such a night. The rain was roaring outside and the only sound inside was the ringing of her
phone.
Maja bowed her head, trying to fish her phone out of her pocket.
“Mr. Raymond, actually I…”
Before she could finish her sentence, a thunderp echoed from outside the window, but with no
apanying sh of lightning, the room remained in darkness.
Due to the sudden burst of thunder,n missed the unique change in her voice.
Otherwise, he would have recognized immediately, that this was his designer.
At this moment, however, he couldn’t hear anything over the sudden thunder and the ringing phone.
Maja had prepared herself to give up and had even thought about how she would apologize.
But the moment she pulled her phone out of her pocket, it powered downpletely.
It wasn’t her doing though, the phone had simply run out of battery and shut off.
She had been in a rush when she left the house tonight and had spent the entire previous night at the

hospital. Her phone hadn’t. -had a chance to be charged and after all the incessant ringing, the battery
was finally depleted.
What a coincidence!
She almost started to wonder if she had done something great in her past life, to be offered such a turn
of events at this point.
for the life of him, he couldn’t remember where he had met her before.
“Mr. Raymond, I’m new here and I identally broke a bowl earlier, so I got a bit flustered.”
So, she had been crouching there all along, picking up the broken pieces of the bowl.
So, she didn’t know where the fuse box was because she was new here.
“Maria said we should always be on our toes around you, we’re all scared of messing up.”
Her voice was barely a whisper as she said this, sounding genuinely scared.
He wasn’t used to being close with women, physical contact made him ufortable. He had only
grabbed her wrist out of
reflex.
Only after releasing her, did he realize he had been holding on for a minute.
He rubbed his forehead, wondering if the stress from his grandfather pushing him so hard was starting
to get to him.
“Got it.”
His tone was as indifferent as ever. Then he walked out, “It’s dark in here, be careful.”
-Maja stood still, listening as his footsteps faded away and finally let out a sigh of relief.
Only when she was sure he had gone upstairs, did she slowly make her way up.
Once back in her room, she plugged her phone in to charge and saw that it was Neil Pennyfeather who
had been calling. He wanted her to bringn to the Pennyfeather family dinner the following evening.
This was something he had requested before, but all Maja felt was a headache.
She remembered the nerve–wracking moment withn just now and felt that she just couldn’t stay in
Rosewood Manor any longer.
The next morning, she didn’t leave the house, waiting forn to leave first.
Only when Maria came to tell her thatn had left, did she breathe a sigh of relief.
Being in the same ce with him, it was difficult to even take a deep breath. After breakfast, she went
to the back room to check on Coco, the dog. Coco had been kept locked uptely and didn’t bark as
loudly as before, which made Maja feel sorry for her.
She had to move out of Rosewood Manor as soon as possible, she couldn’t let Coco continue to
suffer.
Luckily, the house she bought was big enough for her and Coco, they wouldn’t feel cramped.
Coco barked excitedly as it circled around her.
Maja patted its head with a smile, took it for a walk around Rosewood Manor, then headed to
Silverstone Enterprises to confirm her work arrangements and sign a contract.
Since she was about to start working, she had to notifyn, of course.
Maja made a personal trip to the Raymond Corporation, where she ran into the annoying Dana
Shepard again.
Dana had just called Carlene Shepard, promising to keep an eye onn, when she saw Majaing to
the office on her own initiative.
Not much time had passed and here she was again, clearly trying to get close ton under the guise of
work.
“Some people just spend their days dreaming about getting special treatment.”
She looked at Maja with contempt and mmed the files in her hands onto the table.
“Not considering their own abilities, relying on underhanded methods. Using them once or twice is
enough, don’t think you can actually win people’s hearts.”
Carlene was about to return, Maja was just a clown.
But this clown apparently hadn’t realized her status yet, so it was necessary for her to remind her.
