Chapter 29: Evidence that backed his claims

Damien originally wanted to keep this matter to himself and wait for the mary rewards to be handed over to him before he announced to his siblings that it was he who had saved lord Nics.

Having learned from his lesson that no one would believe him without a piece of very strong evidence to back his im, he wanted to at least have a nice, clean reward with him before making such a bold statement.

Because he knew that if he had told Henry and Prisci the truth, given their attitudes and understanding of the predecessor of this body—Henry would have called him delusional and Prisci would have called for a healer.

Money had and was the best evidence after all for Damien had never seen a rich person be used of theft.

But he did not care about that right now.

As a doctor, Damien had long noticed that Lady Cecil''s condition didn''t seem good.

Without further examination, he couldn''t find out the crux of the reason behind her condition. Anyway, he could always act first and think of the consequencester.

    "What nonsense, how could you—"

"You will know whether I am telling the truth or not if you were to ask Xavier," Damien shot back, interrupting the boy from making any more trouble.

He raised a proactive brow and remarked, "There is no need to deny what I am saying so quickly, you can at least ask first?" Damien added in a sweet voice which made Henry ground his teeth.

Though he was certain that there was no way his brother could have done what he was iming, he still backed away and walked to the door of the room.

"Lord Xavier," Henry opened the door and called for the silver-haired man who stood a bit far from the doorway.

He must have done it to give them enough privacy but Henry knew that Xavier must have heard bits and pieces of their conversation with his sharp hearing.

"What is it, Lord Henry?" Xavier asked as he raised his head and walked over to where the little boy stood.

Henry hesitated as he turned and looked at Damien who sat cross-armed at the small chair next to the bed of their mother.

He thought that Damien would stop him or at least try to back away from the ridiculous im that he had made but upon seeing the obnoxious expression on the face of his elder brother, he knew that there was no way Damien was going to change his words.

Annoyed and frustrated by the actions of his brother, Henry turned and looked at Xavier. Fine, since he wanted to be humiliated then so be it, this would teach his brother a lesson.

At least from now on he would not make such bold and foolish ims.

"Lord Xavier, my brother just made a very absurd im," Henry began in a low voice. Hearing his words, Xavier furrowed his eyebrows and looked at Damien who arched his brow and exined the matter to him, "I want to treat our mother but he is stopping me."

"He thinks I am ying around, so our dearest Lord Xavier please tell him about how I saved Lord Nics''s life. So I can continue examining my mother."

After speaking, he muttered under his breath, "What a tragedy. Instead of believing apetent man like me, they are quick to trust those quacks. What a world we live in."

    Xavier and Henry: "…"

Xavier heaved a sigh and then closed his eyes before replying to Henry, "Indeed my lord, it was Lord Damien who saved the life of Lord Nics, by cutting the skin of his leg and releasing the Boreal worms that were feeding on his flesh."

Anyway, by tomorrow morning all sort of garbled versions of how Damien saved Nics would be spread all over the mansion, so he might as well tell Henry the truth lest he heard some gibberish nonsense from the maids and the servants.

"As it is impossible for the healers to see what was happening on the inside they could not treat Lord Nics."

"Even if they did, they would have raised their hands in surrender," said Damien from behind. "Because there is no cure for Boreal Worms, is there?"

It was just as Damien said, there was indeed no cure for the Boreal Worms. For the wolf beastmen, these worms were the foulest thing one could ever face and they made sure to never consume anything uninspected lest that thing had eggs of those worms.

How lord Nics ended up getting gued by those worms was a mystery to Xavier and given that Lady Wistoria and Lord Gilderoy were investigating the matter while putting everything on hold, it was enough to let him know that the two of them didn''t know any better than him.

"Lord Xavier, why are you making such a joke? How could my brother save Lord Nics and that too from Boreal Worms?" Henry asked with a palingplexion.

"Why can''t I save him?" Damien asked indignantly.

"I am not making a joke, Lord Henry," Xavier shook his head and continued speaking, "It was indeed Lord Damien who saved Lord Nics. If not for him taking the responsibility, I am afraid, Lord Nics—" he trailed off without saying anything further, as it would be too ominous.

Henry looked shell-shocked. He turned to look at his brother with his mouth agape, "That—you couldn''t —possibly—" he seemed to be having a hard time believing that Damien really saved Nics and did something that even the healers couldn''t.

"Can I continue with the examination now?" Damien ignored the bbering of the boy and questioned him. "Her condition is severe if you haven''t noticed that already, we cannot waste any more time."

Henry went very red in the face but nodded nheless. Even if he wanted to refuse now, he couldn''t have done so.

Damien snorted. He uncrossed his arms and then turned to look at Lady Cecil who was lying on the bed with a painful expression on her face. Prisci was rubbing her stomach soothingly.

"Prisci, step aside," said Damien, sounding much more businesslike than before.
