Chapter 1283
“Oh, my! Corentin!” Alexis Allison set her knitting tools down and walked over to hug Corentin. “Let me
take a good look at you. Did you lose weight? Has your madman of a father done anything to you?”
“No.”
Alexis noticed Ashlynn in surprise and went over to take Ashlynn’s hands. “And you must be my
daughter-inw, right?”
“Yes,” Corentin admitted.
“I knew it. I can tell right away. She seems like a nice girl. Corentin, don’t bully her, okay?” Alexis said,
“Here, let me give you a gift.”
She pulled Ashlynn over to her bed and took out a box from the drawer, before handing it to Ashlynn.
“Open it and see if you like it.”
“I can’t take this,” Ashlynn refused.
“Why not? I would be upset if you don’t take this.” Alexis ced her hands over her chest and pouted.
Corentin found a chair and sat down. “Just keep it.”
Ashlynn epted the box and opened it to find a beautiful brooch inside. “Thank you.”
“You’re wee. Corentin is such a bad boy for not inviting me to the wedding. Has he bullied you?
Tell me if he did and I’ll beat him up for you.”
“He didn’t.”
“It’s Beth Wace who bullied her,” Corentin said.
Ashlynn shot Corentin an annoyed look for mentioning this.
“Beth Wace?” Alexis repeated in confusion. “Who’s that? Do I know her? I can’t remember. Beth
Wace… Beth Wace…youngdy, who are you?”
Since Alexis was having another episode, the two did not stay and left the asylum. Ashlynn knew that
the woman in the asylum was the mother of the real Corentin Lloyd.
‘How pitiful to be locked up there, not knowing that her real son is long dead and the man before her is
just an imposter who killed her son,’ she thought, knowing with

certainty that Corentin would not feel guilty at all.
“How did she end up like this?” She asked.
“She knew too much.” He nced at her. “How much do you know?”
“I don’t know anything.” She looked outside the window.
Ashlynn had no interest in learning the dark secrets of the Lloyd Family. Had the Hiltons been aware of
the truth, they would have never allowed Meredith to be engaged to Corentin as it was no different than
pushing Meredith into a fire.
The car stopped by the street instead of Corentin’s mansion.
A woman walked over and Corentin’s bodyguard took the bag the woman was holding.
Corentin lowered the car window to take the bag before tossing it toward Ashlynn. ” See if you like it.”
The car took off once again and Ashlynn held onto the bag, surprised by the gift. She opened the bag
and saw a woman’s watch that looked extravagant and fashionable.
“Is mine prettier or the one Jeremy got you prettier?” He asked, “He bought you quite a lot of things,
didn’t he?”
Corentin had learned that Jeremy and Ashlynn went shopping before even asking the question and
was even aware of what they had bought.
“Why didn’t you wear the one he got you?”
Knowing that Corentin would soon lose his patience if she remained quiet, she said, ” You would be
upset if I wear it.”
“How thoughtful,” he said.
Ignoring the sarcastic tone, she said, “You don’t need to buy me anything else. I have more than
enough.”
He did not say a word, but took the watch out of its box, before putting it onto her
wrist.
She studied the watch and noticed the odd, irregr shape of the wristband, despite how smooth it felt
on her skin.
‘Maybe it’s just a special design,’ she thought.
The way Corentin helped put it on made it feel like a chain instead of a watch, but since she did not
have the courage to refuse, she simply said, “Thank you. It looks nice.”
