Chapter 1258
That was right, it would not be too much of a fuss to just add a set of cutlery. Only Corentin could say
that with a straight face.
“Then what is her identity to earn her a seat on this table? As your lover? Corentin, are you trying to
humiliate her?” Meredith asked.
“Did you say I cannot bring any guests beforehand?” Corentin asked everyone.
Everyone went speechless, astounded by Corentin’s logic, though they suppressed their feelings.
Beth was quick to calm down. “Since she is already here, perhaps it’s good to discuss this as well
openly. Corentin, did you cancel the engagement because of her?
Corentin was toozy to even reply.
This was because the answer was already apparent.
Beth asked, “Are you kidding? You are going against the Hilton family for a girl that came from the
slum. I really doubt you are capable enough to be the Lloyd family’s heir.”
Corentin’s hands were grabbing the ss and swirling it slowly in his hands. His eyes looking at Beth
were dark but cold. “I heard that you were there too when Ashlynn went into the operation theater. Do
you mind exining yourself first?”
Beth looked at Ashlynn.
In fact, she was exposed that night because she thought Corentin would never do much just for a
secret lover.
Now, she really felt that Corentin was utterly incapable of thinking straight.
He had the balls to bring Ashlynn here to challenge everyone.
However, it only took Beth a swift second to change her strategy. “I am indeed at fault for not handling
this better, so to make amends, I would like to take Ashlynn as my goddaughter.”
Everyone was shocked to hear this, except Corentin, who only reacted with his eyes turning slightly
darker.
“Auntie, what are you talking about?” Meredith was the first person to disagree.
Was she joking?
If Ashlynn could be the goddaughter of the Hilton family, then her status would no longer be the
girl from the slum. She would be an equal to her!
Beth gave her a look tofort her, then directed her charity gaze back to Ashlynn.” What do you
think?”
Text property ? N?vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Meredith had to suppress her uneasiness.
What else could she think? No matter who that was, it was immensely great news!
Ashlynn should be so happy that she lost her words!
However, was Ashlynn the only one who found this unusual?
Even though she had only been in contact with Beth two times before, she knew that this woman was
not kind.
Beth knew it well enough that if she did this, they would be distracted from the
cancetion of the engagement to the truth within the operation theater.
If any evidence showed the Hilton family was at fault first, then they would no longer have the upper
hand.
This was the reason why Corentin came here all prepared.
He would not just let this slide.
However, Ashlynn was unwilling to be Beth’s goddaughter.
She was about to decline the offer. “I am sorry, I…”
“I agree.”
Ashlynn turned her head at the deep voice next to her that replied. She looked at Corentin in shock.
He agreed. Why?
Corentin seemed to be able to sense her shock and questions. His amber–colored eyes looked right
into hers. “You should ept this extremely good offer to be the Hilton family’s goddaughter.”
Ashlynn pursed her lips. To ept or not? No, she did not want to take part in the Lloyd family’s matter
and definitely not to be involved with the Hilton family.
However, what Corentin wanted was to make her suffer…
