    Chapter 1016

Josie, noticing the waiter’s disbelief, felt a bit embarrassed. She tugged at Mallory’s sleeve. “Aren’t you

    being impolite?”

“In these times, one can never be too cautious.”

After Mallory finished speaking, the waiter slightly lifted his head unexpectedly, revealing his eyes

previously concealed under the baseball cap. His pitch-ck pupils carried a hidden sharpness that

resembled the sh of a de being unsheathed. Just like that, he stared directly at Mallory.

Suddenly, Mallory felt her legs weaken.

Why does an ordinary waiter like him have such an intense gaze?

The atmosphere grew tense. Josie wanted to intervene and defuse the situation, but all she heard was

the waiter straining his voice to the point of distortion, gritting his teeth as he replied to Mallory, “I have

    a skin condition.”

Mallory stood rooted to the spot, wondering why the voice sounded so familiar to her.

Who is he? Who is he? I just can’t remember.

The words struck a chord with Josie’s maternal instincts. She stepped forward, gently pulling Mallory

away and apologizing, “I’m sorry, my friend didn’t mean it. She’s a little mentally challenged.”

Even when all the dishes were served, Mallory, who had ordered arge amount of food, sat at the

table with a listless look on her face.

    Josie asked her, “What’s wrong?”

Mallory was still affected by the harsh, icy gaze from earlier. This can’t be… How can I possibly be

intimidated by the gaze of a mere waiter?

This time, when she looked up, she still saw the same waiter serving the dishes.

Mallory gave him aplex stare, desperately trying to find a reason for his actions.

Josie scolded her for herck of manners but then let it go.

Charles continued, “I assume you’re aware that the Olsen family has made a great effort to find you. If

possible, I hope you can give them a chance. If your grandfather were still alive, he would have wanted

    the same.”

When the topic of her grandfather came up, Josie lowered her head slightly. “I’ll consider it,” she said.

The clientele of this restaurant was always from high society. Suddenly, the sound of shattering ss

    echoed from the adjacent room.

The sound was crisp and piercing, a clear indication that something had been thrown with incredible

force. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows by the street, one could clearly see a group of people

    inside.

A girl stood across from them and was being pulled by someone, yet she maintained her stance, her

chest heaving. “Don’t go too far!”

She pointed towards a young man who was seated there, two buttons of his shirt undone, while his

legs crossed in a rxed manner. Wearing a smirk, he raised his eyebrows to reveal a look of disdain.

He was still holding his phone in one hand, and when he casually spoke, there was an unexpected

seriousness in his tone. “Let’s set aside the fact that this matter is beyond you. Even if it isn’t, how

much could you really handle? You are just my father’s illegitimate daughter, so you shouldn’t even

dream of getting a share of our family’s assets.”

Everyone at the table dared not speak. Exchanging nces, they were unsure of who to restrain.

Just as the girl, in her growing frustration, was about to throw something once again, someone entered

from outside. Startled by the scene, they eximed, “Put that down, now!”

As the man approached, he observed the standoff between the two parties, still unaware of what had

transpired. He could only start byforting the young girl, “What happened this time? Didn’t I tell you

before? Your brother is naive. You need to be more patient with him.”

No sooner had these words left his mouth, than he felt a kick to his calf. The man behind him was

    clearly displeased. “Screw you.”

The girl mmed her hand on the table, her indignation growing. “I know you’re all siding with him

because you grew up together, but what about me? My mother is gone, and I have nothing but the

label of an illegitimate daughter. Can’t I even ask for something?”
