    Chapter 1423

“I got it, I got it!” Mr. Jarvis chuckled sweetly.

Dr. Ollie said with a grin, “I’m off to brew some medicine. You can drink it by dawn, Mr. Jarvis. If you

feel up to it, you can chat with the youngdy a bit. If you’re tired, you can catch some more z’s.”

“No need for that bitter brew; I’m already awake.” Mr. Jarvis crinkled his brow at the mention of medicin

“Grandpa, you’ve got to listen!” Estelle looked at him sternly.

Mr. Jarvis sighed helplessly, “Then at least sweeten the pot a bit for me, will ya?”

“Well, alright, I’ll add some sugar.” Dr. Ollie agreed this time around.

With that, he left the room in high spirits.

Mr. Jarvis seemed to be in good shape, so he chit–chatted with Estelle for a while longer.

Wade, noticing the break of dawn, reminded Estelle, “Miss, Mr. Lamont is still waiting for you outside!”

Estelle felt a pang of worry, afraid that hearing about Jonathan would upset Mr. Jarvis and worsen his h

ealth. She quickly reassured him, “I didn’t invite him over; he came on his own.”

Mr. Jarvis and Wade exchanged knowing nces, then

chuckled, “Still trying to pull the wool over my eyes, huh?”

    “Grandpa?” Estelle bit her lip.

    “Over the past two years

when you were away, Jonathan kept mepany every Christmas,” Mr. Jarvis began. “I didn’t take a s

hine to him at first, but he stuck around until the Christmas was over. By the time I let him leave, our r

tionship wasn’t as rocky as you might think.”

Estelle’s eyes widened. “You mean he? He is?”

“Yeah!” Wade chimed in, grinning. “Every Christmas’s Eve, Mr. Lamont woulde over and have din

    ner with Mr.

Jarvis. In the following days, he’d stick around to fish, y chess, and take walks. They’ve got a pretty t

    ight bond!”

Estelle looked incredulous. “But when I video called

you during the Christmas, I never once saw him?”

“I intentionally kept him out of sight; how could you have

seen him?” Mr. Jarvis chuckled softly. “I wanted to see how sincere he was and if he was worth entrusti

    ng you with again.”

    Estelle fell silent.

Mr. Jarvis then asked Wade, “Where’s Jonathan?”

“He’s been waiting outside all night,” Wade replied.

Mr. Jarvis gently patted Estelle’s hand and said, “Go on, take him to the backyard to rest.. I’ll catch so

me more shut–eye. You can bring him to see me at dawn.”

“I’ll stay with you a bit longer,” Estelle said.

“You’ve been with me all night; what’s the point in staying longer?” Mr. Jarvis looked at Wade

    and said, “Let her go!”

Wade joined in, “It’s almost dawn, Miss. Go check on Mr. Lamont. I’ll keep Mr. Jarvispany.”

Estelle had no choice but to agree, saying, “Alright then,

I’ll go see him. Grandpa, get some more sleep. I’lle back at dawn.”

“Go on,” Mr. Jarvis said warmly.

Estelle got up and left, closing the door behind her.

Though dawn hadn’t yet broken, the courtyard lights had been on all night, casting an even dimmer glo

    w. Estelle headed towards the porch, where she saw a man leaning against a pir. His tall figure almo

st seemed to blend into the darkness.

As she approached, the man looked up at her, his eyes never leaving her.

Estelle climbed the steps and slowly walked up to him, remembering what Janice had told her earlier, h

    er heart aching.

Under the dim light and swaying tree shadows, Estelle looked up at the man and whispered,

‘Jonathan, do you still love me?”

Jonathan looked straight into her eyes, his deep gaze unwavering. He grabbed her hand and ced it

over his heart. “As long as here is still beating, I’ll never stop loving you.”

Through his thin shirt, Estelle could feel the strong and rhythmic beat of his heart, and she felt her eye

    s well up with tears.
