    The James family office building


    Just before the end of the workday, Rachel handed Emily some drawing materials and asked her to


    finish the iplete architectural design project and check the data.


    This task was originally given to Rachel by her supervisor, but Rachel had a date tonight, so she


    passed it on to Emily.


    Emily worked overtime until past 8 o’clock before she finished. She stretched her waist and showed a


    rxed expression. Just as she was about to pack up and go home, she heard someone approaching,


    a familiar, gentle voice with a smile, “I knew you’d be workingte again!”


    Emily looked up and smiled, “And you’re workingte too?”


    “I just came back to get something, I saw your office lights still on.” Charlie said with a lightugh, “Let’s


    go, I’ll give you a ride home.” “No need, I can take the subway by myself!” Emily said hurriedly.


    “Come on, pack up quickly!” Charlie said.


    Emily smiled, “I’ll be right there!”


    Neither of them had dinner yet, so Charlie took Emily to eat first. He chose a restaurant, which was


    clean and elegant.


    During the meal, Charlie went to make a phone call, and Emily secretly paid the bill.


    After Charlie came back, he found out that Emily had paid. The dishes at this restaurant weren’t cheap.


    The meal cost nearly half of Emily’s monthly sry. Charlie grabbed his wallet and tried to give her


    some cash.


    Emily frowned, “Don’t even think about it! You’ve always been helping me, and now you’re even


    counting the cost of a meal I treated you to. Didn’t you say you considered me a friend?”


    Charlie smiled faintly, “So, can you afford next month’s rent?”


    “I’ve already paid for three months of rent, so it’s enough!” Emilyughed, showing her dimples.


    “You cheeky girl!” Charlie said with a smile, “Alright, next time don’t fight with me on this. Get in the


    car!”


    “Okay!”


    Emily knew that a meal wasn’t much to Charlie, but she was very happy to treat him for once.


    Half an hourter, they arrived at the apartmentplex. Emily unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of


    the car, saying cheerfully, “Thanks, Charlie! I’m going up!”


    “Get some rest, and don’t work toote!” Charlie reminded her.


    “I know!” Emily got out of the car, walked to the entrance of the building, and waved back. Her gesture


    was cute and lovely.


    Emily went upstairs, feeling good, but her face turned gloomy the moment she opened the door.


    The apartment wasn’t big. The living room was right by the entrance, and everything was visible. Emily

    Her face was sallow, her eyes were dark, and she looked gloomy.


    Emily asked, “What are you doing here? We have nothing to do with each other anymore!”


    Crystal didn’t say a word, just kept staring at her.


    Mathilda saw that the situation between the two wasn’t right, and her eyes darted around as she


    returned to her own room.


    Crystal whispered, “I lost my job. I have nothing left. Are you satisfied now?”
