Susan stepped away from the cold, marble gravestones, her heart heavy with loss. Yet as she dialed Callum''s number, a sly
smile yed at the corners of her lips, her grief momentarily disced by a cunning ploy.
"Mr. Gordon, how have you been holding up?" she cooed into the phone, her voice dripping with feigned concern.
"Cut to the chase," came Callum''s icy reply.
Their rtionship was strictly business. There was no warmth there. If Susan was calling, she wanted something. Empty
pleasantries were useless to him, and he had no desire to hear them.
Susan didn''t bother with any more niceties. Sheughed and said pointedly, "We had an agreement, didn''t we? To drive a wedge
between Lysander and Thssa. That goal has been achieved. Do you have any idea what | had to sacrifice to make that
happen?"
"I''m all ears," Callum responded, his tone as t as a pancake.
Susan''s fists clenched until her knuckles turned white. She fought to hold back the rage and sorrow as she said, "My parents are
dead. It''s because | showed Lysander and Thssa those incriminating files my dad had hoarded. Lysander flipped and had my
dad thrown in jail. Then Thssa''s mother testified, sealing my dad''s fate with usations of fraud and moneyundering. He
was fast-tracked to the electric chair, and my mom... she couldn''t handle his death; she followed him to the grave.”
"Oh, congrats on reaching your goal," Callum said with a hollow indifference that stunned Susan to the core.
Human emotions, Susan realized bitterly, are not universal. Her agony was nothing but a passing tale to Callum, an insignificant
blip void of any real impact.
Callum couldn''t possibly understand her heartache and loss. Even though she had paid dearly, to him, it was all just part of the
game.
Susan took several deep breaths to steady herself and quell the turmoil within. She quickly regained herposure and said
calmly, "Even though Lysander and Thssa have split, I''m still no closer to Lysander. It''s unfair, and | can''t stand it."
"That''s your problem, not mine," Callum said, about to disconnect the call.
Anticipating his hang-up, Susan hurriedly blurted out, "Mr. Gordon! | need your help. If you turn me down, I''ll spill the beans to
Thssa. I''ll tell her about our little scheme to ruin her rtionship with Lysander. Considering how stubborn she is, do you think
she''ll ever forgive you once she finds out what you''ve done behind her back?"
Susan knew Callum had followed Thssa to Eldoria. She didn''t know exactly what had transpired between them there, but
Thssa''s coldness to Lysander upon her return was telling enough. Something unpleasant must have happened in Eldoria, and
Callum was involved.
It was because of Callum that Thssa''s image of Lysander had been tainted, allowing Susan the chance to fan the mes of
Thssa''s resentment.
Callum''s voice dropped an octave, a dangerous edge to his words. "Susan, if you have a death wish, just say it!"
