During the day, Joe had insisted that he had no rtionship with Vera, but now they were out
together at a bar. It was clear he was lying, thinking she had no evidence.
“Joe, I’m not stupid. Thanks to Ms. Ruell for providing the photos,” Skr texted. 1
After sending the message, she turned off her phone and went to sleep.
In a dimly lit bar, Joe had downed two drinks. He felt indifferent as he watched his old ssmates,
who had all changed over the years.
As he set his ss down and prepared to leave, he felt his phone vibrate. Pulling it out, he saw the
photos and message from Skr, and his face darkened immediately. He turned his sharp gaze
toward Vera.
When Vera met Joe’s intense stare, her heart skipped a beat. She wondered why he was looking at
her with such a frightening expression.
She asked, “Joe, what’s wrong?”
The atmosphere was lively just now. A group of old ssmates had gathered and shared a few
drinks. They reminisced about their high school days and current lives, making it feel like those
events happened just yesterday.
In such a great atmosphere, she wondered why Joe was suddenly looking at her with such a
terrifying expression. It made her heart race, and an inexplicable fear overwhelmed her.
Joe stood up and said, “We need to talk outside.”
“Outside? Okay.” Vera was initially taken aback, but then a wave of excitement washed over her.
She wondered if he remembered their past from high school.

Today might be the day when she and Joe finally reconciled. With that thought, Vera followed Joe
outside.
The noise from the bar ceased as soon as they stepped outside. The street was eerily quiet
compared to the bar’s liveliness, with only a few pedestrians around.
Vera had dressed lightly for the evening, and the sudden breeze made her wrap her coat tighter.
“Is there something you need to tell me? There’s no one else around now, so we can talk,” Vera
said with a touch of haughtiness.
In her mind, as long as Joe took the initiative, she could afford to be amodating. She could
never afford to be at a disadvantage in front of him.
Joe didn’t look at her, but his profile exuded a sharp coldness. “Did you specifically take a photo of
just the two of us and send it to Skr?”
Vera’s face went pale, her disbelief evident as she stared at Joe. She was at a loss for words. He
wondered how he had found out. Did Skr go to him?

She replied, “Yes, I didn’t think it through. Besides, I haven’t chatted much with Skr since we
added each other on WhatsApp.
“I wanted to maintain our friendship, and she might be curious about your whereabouts tonight. If
this has caused any trouble, it’s my fault. I’ll exin everything to Skr.”
Joe’s cold gaze remained fixed on Vera. Her heart, which had just settled, began to race again.
If Joe were looking at her with affection, she would definitely respond. But now, he seemed to be
trying to see through her.
It felt as though, in front of Joe, no matter what she thought or felt, everything would beid bare.
She looked down at the ring on her finger. With the ring, she hoped that Joe would slowly rekindle
his feelings for her rather than suspect and doubt her,
With that thought, her tense heart eased a little.
Joe said, “I’ll talk to her. You don’t need to contact her yourself.”
After saying this, Joe walked toward the car parked nearby.
Vera, btedly realizing what was happening, rushed after him. But just a few steps out, she saw
Joe’s car already pulling away from the parking spot and speeding off.
