Vera bit her lip, her face turning pale. “I don’t believe Joe would turn against me for Skr. She must
not mean as much to him as I do.”
Seeing that Vera was still not grasping the gravity of the situation, Justin felt a mix of frustration and
resignation. He decided to address the immediate issue rather than confronting her further.
“We need to find someone to keep Christopher quiet. No matter what happens, he must not reveal
that you were behind bringing him to Jipsburg. In recent years, Joe has been known for his ruthless
methods; even his uncle is wary of him.
“Although your family is well–established in Jipsburg and might not fear direct retaliation from Joe,
it’s best to distance yourself and avoid any potential fallout. Furthermore, if you end up with Joe, you
don’t want this incident to create a rift between you two and affect your rtionship.”
Vera frowned and replied, “I understand.”
Justin nodded.
After a moment, Vera suddenly asked, “Did Christopher really fuck Skr? Given the time that’s
passed and the drugs Skr was given, it’s likely that he did. If Joe sees Skr with her ex–
boyfriend, he’s going to be upset.”
Justin was momentarily taken aback by Vera’s question. He suddenly realized that Vera, who had
once seemed so proud and arrogant, was actually just putting on a fa?ade. Although she seemed
indifferent on the surface, she was deeply concerned underneath.
“He probably hadn’t. If he had, the situation would be far moreplicated than just having the
police escort him away,” Justin said with certainty.
Justin had seen firsthand how carefully Joe protected Skr, gently cing her into the car. The
quick response in locating her demonstrated Joe’s dedication.
Vera bit her lip. She was visibly frustrated. “Christopher is truly useless. If he hadn’t told me himself
how much Skr used to love him, I would never have brought him to Jipsburg.”
Seeing that Vera still hadn’t grasped the seriousness of the situation, Justin frowned and said, “Now
is not the time to dwell on this. You need to use your family’s connections to resolve this issue
immediately.
Vera collected herself. Her face darkened as she took out her phone and made a call.
After getting a response from the end of the line, she said to Justin, “Fortunately, I’ve made some
additional arrangements when I brought Christopher to Jipsburg. I thought I wouldn’t need them, but
it turns out he waspletely useless.”

When Skr woke up at Apollo Hospital, it was already dark outside. She felt a renewed strength in
her body. The first thing she saw was Joe sitting on the couch, engrossed in his phone.
Joe was dealing with some work, giving instructions in a low voice. “If you can’te up with a
satisfactory solution, you can disband the entire department.”
From his tone, it was clear Joe was angry.
Skr recalled the events before she lost consciousness, realizing how timely Joe’s arrival had
been. Just thinking about the situation she would have faced if he hadn’t shown up sent a chill
through her. The fear she felt then was more intense than when Molly and the others had schemed
against her.
Joe suddenly looked up and met her gaze. He immediately put his phone down. “You’re awake?
How are you feeling now?”
