Walls Of The Underworld


    The Walls of the Underworld... it was the name of the second city that the Guardian wanted to create for humanity''s sake


    This name was not something that the Guardian or any other Elders of the Council had decided to coin. This name naturally surfaced because of the number of deaths that urred trying to build this city that was still far from being finished. Even after years, the construction hasn''t even finished at least half of the intended city walls


    Thousands and thousands of humans and magic beasts died at this ce. Countless resources were poured and wasted trying to make the seemingly impossible thing possible


    It was only the insistence of the Guardian that caused the construction to continue. However, most of the City of Hope''s inhabitants are already thinking that it is impossible to create a second city due to the magic beasts constantly stopping them


    At this moment, just like usual, a chaotic and bloody battle has urred. The participants of this battle were higher than usual as it involves one of the Elders of the Council and to be one of the Elders, one must reach the peak of the Senior Rank!


    In other words, all the Elders are at the 9th cycle of the Senior Rank and not just any peak Senior Mages. They should be peak Senior Mages with enough influence and is stronger than their peers


    While it was rare for anyone to reach the peak of the Senior Rank, at the very least, there should be tens of them in the city. However, less than fifteen people are qualified to be an Elder that possesses the highest authority excluding the Guardian


    This was already the second-highestbatant that both the humans and magic beasts can send to the battlefield


    As for the reason? Humanity is one step closer to finishing a rather crucial part of the city walls. It was not that humanity has made no progress on the city''s construction over the years. It''s just that their progress was painfully slow and the resources and manpower that they are using are way more than the returns


    While many magic beasts only have their basic instincts, they also have members with intelligence that is no differentpared to normal humans. As such, the magic beasts discovered this crucial point and they decided to send their high-levelbatants, forcing humanity to send one of their Elders


    The Elder that they sent this time can be considered as the most entric and introverted Elder. Possibly even the most entric and introverted person out of all the people in the City of Hope


    She was also one of the few female Elders along with Elder Lavery


    "Elder Priss, we have discovered the arrival of another peak Senior Beast. This makes it a one versus two battle. Should we call for a reinforcement?" An attendant on Elder Priss''s side informed her anxiously


    Typically, magic beasts are strongerpared to human mages at the same level. It is only the various artifacts, potions, scrolls, etc. of humanity that put them at the same level as the magic beasts


    As such, it was extremely disadvantageous for Elder Priss to fight two magic beasts at the same rank as herself


    "No" the Elder simply replied without giving any exnation of her ns. The attendant wanted to persuade her but the Elder didn''t even give him a nce and he could only shut his mouth


    "She''s as unfriendly as they say. I wonder what she looks like under that mask?" The attendant thought while ncing at the white mask that the Elder was wearing


    Very few people have seen the face of Elder Priss but all those that are fortunate only have one adjective to describe her face and that is ''beautiful''. It would make men wonder what the appearance of such an ice-cold beauty is


    Just as the attendant was still imagining the appearance of Elder Priss, he suddenly felt an invisible force hitting his body causing him to fly in the air without his control


    "Ugh?" The attendant can only groan in surprise. Wondering who attacked him when in the next second, his heart turned cold


    "How is this possible!" The attendant cried out in shock but at the same time, he is an experienced mage. Even without regaining his bnce yet and while still being in the air, the attendant fired a signal indicating the presence of magic beasts


    In his vision, he can see a scarlet gate that materializes out of nowhere, and from this gate, two magic beastse out


    These magic beasts have humanoid forms. One of them looks like a humanoid green lizard and the other one looks like a hybrid between a bee and a human


    They are magic beasts that gained humanoid form and that usually means that they have the same level of intelligence as humans. These kinds of magic beasts are the hardest to deal with!


    Normal magic beasts can be easily manipted with the help of human intelligence but it was different for these kinds of magic beasts


    "How did they appear here without any warning? What are the mages at the frontlines doing?" The attendant asked himself


    This ce is close to the walls that the humans are building. In essence, this was the ''rear'' part of the battlefield. At normal times only when the frontlines fell could magic beasts appear here


    However, the attendant didn''t receive any news of the frontlines falling yet magic beasts appeared here. Even if the frontlines fall, at the very least, it should take hours even if the Sage of the magic beasts appeared considering the number of mages that have to die first


    To not receive even a single news of the frontlines falling, just what the hell is happening?!


    Unfortunately, whether it be the attendant, the Elder, or the other mages at the rear, they can only do their best to fight but things are looking pessimistic


    Since this was the rear, most of the mages here are those that specialize in auxiliary paths such as alchemists and also mages that specialize in healing as the injured soldiers are sent here


    Of course, this ce is also tightly guarded considering the importance of the people here but it is definitely not as strong as the frontlines that have the bulk of their forces


    The only fortunate thing was that the Elder was also here but... would it be enough?


    The Elder is at the peak of the Senior Rank but the first two magic beasts that came out from that scarlet gate are also at the same level


    "Hahahaha! Humans! Die!"


    "I will eat all of you!"


    As soon as the two magic beasts arrived, they didn''t waste any time to attack the Elder


    The lizard-type magic beast uses its sharp ws to attack while the bee-type one uses its stinger


    Bang!


    Elder Priss was able to use her scepter in time to block the ws and the stinger but even then, the ground she was standing on still caves in, forming a crater meters deep


    However, despite facing two magic beasts of the same rank, her eyes underneath her masks still remained emotionless as if she didn''t care at all


    "Hahaha! How long can youst?"


    The lizard magic beasts asked loudly as mana gathered at his ws to continue his attack. The bee-type magic beast also did the same thing. It seems like they didn''t want to give the human mage a breather


    As such, Elder Priss was forced to use her scepter to continue blocking without being able to counterattack when the lizardughed loudly again


    "An opening! You''re dead!" The magic beast said joyfully as it swang its tail to the Elder but in the next second, its eyes constricted


    Instead of facing resistance as it was hitting on a physical body, the lizard felt like it merely hit the air


    "Not good! Retreat!" The bee-type magic beast sensed the danger and she jumped back when pink fog suddenly materialized below her


    This pink fog formed the outline of Elder Priss behind the magic beast with her hand on the beast''s neck


    "Ahhkk!!" The magic beast cried out in pain before using her stingers to attack. Her stingers let out a sticky golden-yellow substance and Elder Priss was forced to retreat


    She moved a few meters away from her and her body that was originally formed using pink fog materialized into a real physical body


    Her magic scepter appeared in her hand again and she pointed it at her left hand that has that sticky golden-yellow substance that looked like honey


    The ''honey'' floated and the Elder threw it away. However, one can see that she sustained a burnt injury on the back of her left palm. That honey-like substance was very acidic, enough to harm a peak Senior Mage


    Of course, the bee-type magic beast is also not left unscathed. She too sustained injuries
