Chapter 39: Old Man Rogue


    *VENUS''s POV*


    After a while of settling down my things in my room, I soon came to the realization that I was close to


    my doom. Iid my back on the bed with stress at the back of my head.


    Even though I agreed toe, I was still unwilling to expose myself to the great five packs.

    Considering I''ve done missions all across the continents, it wouldn''t be a surprise if someone


    recognized me in the crowd tomorrow.


    I sighed, hugging the pillow beside me. This is why spies never liked crowds in the first ce.


    "What should I do? Think Venus..Think." I closed my eyes.

    wait patiently in your own room for now. Okay?"}


    I shake my head immedietely, as if the thought was gonna magically disappear. I sat up and scoffed in


    disbelief, "Why did I even think of that self-proimed alpha? Am I taking in too much essence that


    he''s even in my head now?"


    He says he''ll order food, but he hasn''t even called me after hours. He must really like messing with me.


    I rolled my eyes.


    At that moment, I was even more determined to save myself from the situation. I lifted my ass and


    walked around the room as I changed attire. Ultimately, the only solution I could think of was to wear a


    disguise in front of everybody tomorrow.


    And for that to happen, I need to go out to buy some!


    As I closed the room to my door, I nced at Derek''s doorknob.


    "He must be sleeping by now," I nced to the clock above me. "Whatever, it''s better this way anyway."


    I wore my ck baseball cap and left the penthouse suite on my own two feet.

    It''s been so long since I''ve been to Stone City. I nced around me and saw the bustling street filled


    with different species. Before, there weren''t any tall buildings, but now because of the advanced human


    technology we acquired, it must''ve been a lot easier for everyone to settle in Stone City. Who would''ve


    thought that it would change this much?


    As I walked discreetly at my own pace, my reflexes turned when a homeless rogue almost grabbed my


    feet. I looked down at him, as he sprawled down on the ground for trying to reach me.


    "Are you... okay?" I asked, confused why he tried to touch me.


    Oddly though, heughs and straightens his back. "Oh my... youngsters do really have improved


    reflexes."


    "I won''t give you money."


    "I never begged for money." He smiles.


    "Then what do you want?"


    "It''s my birthday."


    "What?" I raised an eyebrow, confused.


    "It''s my birthday," He repeats, "Can you sing me a song, youngd? This old man never fails to


    celebrate a birthday every year."


    "You don''t have any family to do that?"


    He shakes his head. I don''t even get why I asked that in the first ce, but when I''ve confirmed that he


    also doesn''t have a family. I couldn''t help but get a random bill in my pocket and throw it at his face.


    His eyes widen in shock.


    I sighed, "Look, old man, I''m not good at singing. I don''t know any songs so let''s not do that. Take this


    money and spend your own birthday with things that make you happy."


    "W..What?" He says, dumbfounded.


    "You''re not begging for money. So don''t take this as something offensive."


    I nodded to myself. I''m not much of apassionate person. But Ryan said that Shaka is always


    empathetic towards me. And Shaka, every year, would throw money at my face and tell me to go and


    have fun.


    So... I''m doing this right, right?


    I was about to leave when suddenly I heard a voiceughing from afar. I nced to my side and saw


    Alpha Seff pping his hands as he approached our spot. Has this person finally lost his mind? Why is


    this damn psychoughing?


    "Alpha Seff? What are you doing here?"


    Hisughter starts to die down, and he wipes down invisible tears in his cheek. "Ah... you never really


    fail to make meugh at the right time."


    "What the hell are you talking about? I asked you a question. You should answer me first."


    "And you." He takes my cap off. "Why are you sneakily snooping around at this time of the night?"


    I yanked my cap back and wore it once again, "Not your business. If you''re not going to answer my


    question, then fine. let''s drop the meaningless formalities, and I''ll go now."


    I turned a heel, yet he stopped me again. This time he held the back of my shirt. I grumbled in


    annoyance, "What are you doing! Let go of my shirt!"


    "Can you wait? I''ll answer your question in a bit. Don''t be so impatient to leave."


    "In a bit? I don''t have all the time to entertain you."


    "Don''t be stingy. Women shouldn''t be walking alone in the middle of the night."


    "You mean.. women who haven''t almost to killed you? If so, then I can confidently walk alone. Okay?"


    He gave me a light chuckle in amusement, "Do you even know your way in Stone City? You look lost."


    "I''m not lost."


    "Then where do you think is SouthMall located?"


    "Duh... it''s obviously in the south?"


    He bursts out inughter again. Even the rogue beside usughed at me. This time, it made Seff weak


    that his grip loosened the grip on my shirt, and I was able to see his idiotic face as I turned in his


    direction.


    "Why are youughing, don''t tell me.. they named a fucking mall SouthMall even though it isn''t in the


    south?" I raised an eyebrow, irritated.


    "Oh, Moon goddess..." He continued tough, "It''s even funnier since you believed in your statement


    with all your might."


    "Shut up. You''re lying. Who''s stupid enough to name a mall like that?!"


    After a while of humiliating me to people around us, hisughter finally stops. I dead-ass stared at him


    during that time. This idiot really lost his goddamned mind. He straightened his back and cheekily


    smiled at me.


    "I don''t know. Honestly, but it does confirm that you''re lying, and you''re actually lost. Right?" He winks


    at me.


    I rolled my eyes, "So what? I don''t need your help,"


    "Are you sure about that? After giving away a hundred dor bill, you still have cash on you?"


    "So you were watching me?"


    "... I happen to pass by and saw the whole thing. Actually, when you give him money, I was initially


    disappointed. But after seeing your expression and what you said after that, it really amused me and at


    the same time made me wonder... just what is going through that head of yours?"


    Why is he being rude? I looked at the old man and saw him bowing to me in gratefulness. Taking


    respect into ount, I dragged Seff away from our initial spot and settled in a dark alley behind a


    building.


    "Why did you take me here? Are you gonna try to kill me again?" He eyes me with intriguing eyes.


    If only I could, but that''s even more troubling to do and meaningless, so I won''t resort to it anymore.


    Seeing that he won''t ever leave me alone, I just naturally decided to entertain him for a while.


    I ced my hands in my jacket''s pockets and stared at him.


    "A person told me it''s rude to talk about a person, if that person that''s being talked about is present. It''s


    his birthday, so i dragged you here to talk about it privately."
