    I sat in my office after I got back from the hospital from seeing Safiya. I left just as she requested


    and did not bother to go back because I did not want her to be hysterical and start screaming


    at me. And I definitely did not want to have a conversation with Georgina. I wouldn’t be caught dead


    doing that. I loathed the woman.


    I carefully arranged the papers strewn across the table papers and started going through all the


    work I had skipped and missed in the past week. In all honesty, it was a lot and I did not n to


    carry them over to next week. That would be very horrible for


    me.


    It had been a very long day and I waspletely exhausted. I was only able to do half of the work


    before I gave in to the exhaustion I was feeling and slept off.

    I woke up to the sound of Harper’s voice. I opened my eyes, and that was when I recognized her


    gentle touch on my shoulders. Her small voice filtered into my ears as I raised my head off the table.


    “Daddy, have you seen Mommy?” She asked, looking at me with worry in her big, innocent eyes.


    “Huh?” I asked, still confused by the strong effects sleep had on me. My bones felt a little heavy,


    and I was sore in my back and neck area because of the posture I had slept in, but other than

    that, I was fine. The exhaustion was gone and I felt revitalized.


    “Do you know where mommy is? haven’t seen her since. yesterday and she promised to y dolls


    with me,” she said with a look of sadness and worry in her eyes. I pressed my lips together and


    wiped my chin. I could feel the line of drool there.


    Leave it to Safiya to promise someone something and then disappoint because of her grand


    revenge scheme.


    That was oddly specific. And true too.


    “Oh…” I said, contemting whether to tell her the truth. Of course, I would tell her the truth. I just


    didn’t know how to do it.


    “She’s at the hospital,” I said and immediately regretted it as soon as her eyes turned wide with


    concern and rm. “What happened to her?” She asked. “Is she okay? Is Baby okay?” She asked


    with wide eyes. Baby was what she fondly called Safiya’s pregnancy.


    “Of course, love,” I said, getting out of my seat and lifting her off the floor. “She’s fine. The doctors


    want to see how Baby is doing. That all,” I told her and she looked like she was in thoughts. “Are


    you sure?” She asked, pulling her favorite toy close to her chest as I walked out of the room with


    her in my


    arms.


    “Yes princess, she’s fine,” I kissed her forehead and set her down on the floor. She looked up at me


    with a smile. “Okay.” She turned around to leave and then paused before turning to look at me. “Is


    sheing home today?” She asked.


    I contemted my answer carefully. “The doctors need more time,” I told her.

    “Can we go and see her then? When you’ve had your bath?” She asked and I nodded. “Of course,”


    said and she gave me a small smile in return. “Okay,” she said and hopped away.


    I watched her till she got to the end of the hallway before I turned and headed for my bedroom.


    I headed straight for the bathroom where I turned the water to my usual temperature and waited for


    it to grow hot before I stepped into the cubicle and started the shower.


    Once I was done, I headed straight to the bedside table where I had left my phone since I got home


    yesterday evening. It was dead.


    “Shit,” I muttered under my breath, hating the way anxiety hit me out of nowhere. I hated it when I


    felt this way. It was my wolf warning me that something big was happening, or about to happen. I


    had gotten the feeling since I woke up but I had ignored it sessfully until I realized that my phone


    was dead.


    I plugged it in and waited anxiously for it to turn on. Could it be that something had happened to


    Safiya? Had something happened to the baby? Was she actually injured? Had Freda actually


    pushed her??


    I pushed thest thought out of my head and grabbed my phone off the table, still leaving it plugged


    into the charger. It turned on and hundreds of phone calls flooded into my phone. My heart. sank


    deep into my chest when I realized they were from Lyra. I had forgotten I still had her number saved


    from when we were friends.


    My first thought was that something had happened to Freda. My heart sank even deeper. Freda,
