    “What?” I asked, not believing my ears at Safiya’s request. “I said I would only do as you say once


    Freda apologizes to me in public for her son’s behavior” she repeated and crossed her hands like I


    didn’t hear her properly the first time.


    “That’s not possible, Safiya. You know very well that Freda’s son wasn’t responsible for Harper’s


    injury. We have no proof of it”. I stated a bit too loudly.


    I was getting tired of Safiya’s drama. Right now, she was just being unreasonable. I couldn’t deal


    with it any longer.


    “Then be prepared to bebeled as a woman beater” she huffed as she made to walk out on me.

    I was extremely angry at the moment and my body trembled slightly because of it. Safiya was

    Just as I was about to talk some sense into her,my phone rang, startling the two of us. It was one of


    the elders from the council and I groaned in frustration. I threw a look at Safiya that kept her rooted

    failure to bring your wife over to clear your name will result in you being removed from your position”

    I rubbed my head in frustration. Safiya was bent on making my life hell. I was between a rock and a


    hard ce. Safiya was my wife. Freda was my mate. Taking a deep breath I began to speak.


    “Of course I’m aware of the repercussions. Safiya and I will head over now”. He hummed in


    response and the line went dead.


    “We are going to the council meeting now!” I stated in a domineering voice. “Only if Freda ising


    along to apologize”, Safiya retorted. I groaned.


    “Fine, Freda will be there, but you better make sure you take back all the horrible things you said


    about me and you better not make a scene while we’re there”. I warned, Safiya gave no reply and


    walked out.


    I sighed in frustration. Freda and I were just beginning to warm up to each other after months of


    fighting. She would hate me if I forced her to do this. But my reputation was at stake. I knew I was


    being a jerk by doing this but I had no choice.


    I could only pray to the moon goddess that Safiya didn’t create a big scene while we were there.


    She had been aching for a chance to humiliate Freda and I had a feeling I had just given her the


    chance to do so.


    I decided to call my men and the line got connected. “Go and

    voice trembled a little.


    “Yes, boss” the man at the other side of the line stated not noticing the slight tremble of my voice.


    “And remember you are. only to escort her to the council,do not rough handle her” I warned and


    disconnected the line.


    I had already agreed to this, might as well take it head on. I left. the room and joined Safiya who


    was already waiting in the car. She didn’t spare me a nce as I got in and I didn’t regard her


    either. Two people could y the game.


    “Let’s go” I stated gruffly to the driver and the trip to the council hall began. I looked at my trembling


    hands and tried topose myself as I thought of how Freda’s reaction would be when she realizes


    that I set her up.


    She would hate me for this forever and whatever tower of hope of reconciliation I had been building


    came crumbling down at the thought. I took a sharp intake of breath. I was beginning to feel


    things…. for Freda. I thought it was only because Cisco was my son that I felt drawn to her but I


    was so wrong.


    The realization of my feelings shocked me as I nced at Safiya hoping she couldn’t see through


    my thoughts. She looked lost in thought. She looked so far off and I was almost filled with pity for


    her.


    I knew I had somehow hurt her feelings, but if she didn’t always make things so difficult all the


    time,our rtionship would at least be bearable.


    I was drawn from my thoughts when the driver announced we had arrived at the council hall.
