Chapter 58
FREDA WHITLOCK
I cried miserably as I looked at my Cisco’s pitiful condition. He had bruises on his cheeks and his
skin was so pale. I couldn’t help but shed more tears as I watched my dear son lying unconscious
without being able to do anything to help.
my
My wolf, Gia tried tofort me but I would hear nothing of it as I did the only thing I could do right
now. I had never see son in such a state since I gave birth to him. It was heartbreaking!
Miss Campbell who had been watching me cry for the past thirty minutes came to my side as she
ced an assuring palm on my shoulder. “Mrs Whitlock, you shouldn’t hurt yourself by crying too
much. You need to be strong for yourself and your son. He needs you more than ever right now”.
I nodded as I tried to wipe my eyes with the back of my hands but more tears just spilled out. “I’m
trying”, I stated in a choked voice. “I just haven’t seen my son in such a helpless state”. I said
miserably.
Miss Campbell just stared at me with eyes full of pity as she could no longer think of words to
comfort me. It was in this state that Kaiden walked into the room. He must have failed in reasoning
things out as I nced at him, his expression filled with confusion and frustration.
His expression immediately changed to one of concern and

worry when he sighted me. “Freda” he called in a worried voice as he walked over to me and put a
hand on my shoulder.
Had it been any other day, I would have shrugged him off. But today, I was tired of fighting things
alone, I neededfort, who else couldfort me better asides from Cisco’s father? How
ironic!
“Why are you crying?”, he asked as he crouched down to meet my eye level. “I-I’m scared” I
huped, my voice hoarse from crying. “What if Cisco doesn’t wake up? He’s my life Kaiden, I can’t
live without him”. I choked out as more tears spilled out.
“Freda” he stated firmly. “Look at me” but I was too devastated to do so. “Freda” he called once
again more softly this time as he took my hands in his, squeezing softly. “Look at me” he said softly
and I slowly raised my eyes to meet his.
And I was surprised by what I saw. He was hurting too. He was the father of the two kids. It hurt him
to see his kids this way and not be able to help them. But he was holding out strong for all of us and
I needed to be strong too.
I nodded my head at the hidden meaning of his soft gaze as wemunicated with only our eyes.
It was just two of us in our little world, oblivious to the rest of our surroundings. “Cisco will be fine”
he muttered softly. I nodded.
“He will be fine” I repeated and instantly felt relieved. My wolf purred with contentment at the bond
between I and my mate Kaiden and I had to agree, maybe what I needed was just thefort of my
mate. My ex mate and Cisco’s father.
He released my hand and my heart ached at the loss of touch. ‘No!’ Now was not the time. I gave
him a small smile to show my

appreciation and he nodded.
I turned to gaze back at Cisco. Just then Lyra came in. “What happened?”, she asked worriedly as
she took in the scene. before her. “I came here as soon as I got your distressing phone call but I
was held up in traffic”. She quickly gave me a tight hug and I leaned into her touch sighing softly.
She nced at Kaiden only just noticing his presence in the room and she red at him before
turning her attention back to me. “Tell me what happened exactly, why is Cisco injured like this and
why hasn’t he regained consciousness?”. Tears threatened to fall from my eyes but I willed it back. I
took deep breath as I began to exin to her.
I told her about the phone call I received from Cisco’s teacher, telling me Cisco was in an ident
and how I came rushing here only to see Harper was injured too and how Safiya started ming
Cisco that he was responsible for Harper’s ident, that he pushed her off the stairs and the
doctors report on the two kids and the argument between Safiya and I and Kaiden trying to calm us
down.
As I narrated on, her scowl deepened and when I finished she was shaking with anger. “Harper is
clearly at fault here, she is the the older one here. She should have been more responsible and it
only makes sense that she was the one who pushed Cisco”. She stated as her eyebrows knitted
together in fury and
concern.
“No,no Lyra let’s not assume. I suggest we wait for the kids to wake up and give us their side of the
story. We should hope for a quick recovery for them”. I finished.
Lyra paid deaf ears to me as she turned to face Kaiden. “And

you, what were you doing when your wife was busy using Freda and her son of attempted
murder?”.
“Lyra…” I tried to exin to her but she cut me off. “No, Fredal someone needs to speak some
sense into this buffalo, he needs to have some control over his wife. He’s an alpha for crying out
loud”.
Kaiden who couldn’t take anymore of Lyra’s insults strode over to Lyra as he straightened himself to
his full height towering over her but Lyra red on not intimidated in the slightest.
“Insult me again and I’ll….”. “You’ll do what?”, Lyra yelled cutting him off. “It’s obvious to everyone
here that you have no control over your wife. So what have I said that’s so wrong?. If you had a little
more control over her, maybe none of this would have happened. This is clearly your fault”. she
stated in a raised voice.
“Lyra” I called trying to butt in but a growl from Kaiden silenced me. “You’re lucky you’re Freda’s
friend and I’ll take it that you’re being concerned for her, because no one insults an alpha and gets
away with it”. He warned and stormed off carrying his menacing aura with him.
