    Throughout the drive back to the pack house, I could not stop thinking about what Freda had said.


    And the more I thought. about it, the more annoyed I had grown. What had she meant, ‘warn your


    wife”?


    My thoughts could only go in one direction. Safiya had done. something to her. Something very bad.


    I mmed the car door shut as soon as I had parked the car and hopped out of it. I stormed into the


    pack house, in the direction of the east wing where the alpha quarters was.


    As soon as I was in there, my eyes caught Safiya having her breakfast. “What did you do?” I asked


    immediately, storming towards her. I knew I should have controlled my anger, or at least tried to. But


    I couldn’t. Not when she had hurt Freda enough to cry so much.


    “What?” She asked, pausing the fork that held a slice of pancake and two blueberries in its way to


    her mouth.


    “What did you do to Freda? What did you say to her?” I asked, so she would know I was not ying


    around with her. I needed. answers as soon as possible and she as annoying me even further by


    not giving me the answers I wanted.


    “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Did something happen to her?” She asked, feigning


    ignorance of what I was asking her

    about. I knew she was not ignorant. In fact, the eyeroll she had failed miserably at concealing was


    proof of what I was talking about.


    “Safiya, I’m not messing around,” fumed and she seemed taken aback by my anger and then hurt.


    “Why are you so concerned about her? She’s not your wife. I am. You’re supposed to support me in


    whatever the situation may be and you’re not doing that,” she ced down her fork and spoke.


    A low growl escaped my throat and it was not a warning one. It was a threatening one that made


    her eyes widen with surprise. My wolf was really upset. Even more upset than I was, because he


    sensed that Freda and her wolf were in a lot of distress. That bothered him a lot and the fact that


    Safiya was not telling us what we wanted to hear was aggravating him far more than I had the


    ability to control.


    “Fine.” She said, getting up to her feet like she wanted to confront me.


    “I told her to stay away from you. You’re my husband, you’re mine. She needs to get over whatever


    it was you both had in the past and leave you alone. You belong to me now,” she said, walking


    towards me and my wolf seemed to lose it for a moment.


    A vicious growl tore through the air between us and she shivered with fear. Her wolf understood the


    rage in my wolf’s voice and despite how both of them were, her wolf seemed to want to back away.


    “Safiya…” I said her fame in an exasperated manner, letting out an aggravated sigh. This was


    exhausting. Having to endure the b**t she fed me with time was exhausting.

    I took several deep breaths to calm myself before I spoke to her. I did not want to scare her too


    much and at the same time, I wanted her to learn her ce, to learn that she was in the wrong and


    she was offending me.


    “Don’t ever…” I continued the warning I had started when I


    called her name. “Don’t you ever approach Freda to bother her again.”


    She looked appalled and I could tell she was about to yell. “I’m sorry??” She questioned, her voice


    rising in pitch as year filled her eyes and anger filled her features.


    “What did you just say?” She fisted her hands beside her as she furiously asked the question.

    “You heard me, Safiya. I do not of what happened today,” I told her with a sigh. I hated having to be


    this way with her, but she always pushed me. She always brought out the worst in me. And she


    always took the brunt of my anger.


    “I am your wife, Kaiden. I have the duty to keep our rtionship safe. You are mine and Freda is


    trying to take you away from me. You think I’m just going to let that happen?” She asked angrily,


    mming her fist in the table. She was being disrespectful but that’s as the least of my worries at


    the moment.


    “Except you want to see the worst part of me, you will stay away from her,” I said with a tone of


    finality and the tears that were glistening in her eyes finally dropped down to her cheeks. She wiped


    them off aggressively but the kepting in torrents.


    I hated hurting her. I really did. But she was always pushing me to my very limits.

    “Is she important to you?” She asked and I said nothing for a full minute before I spoke again. “You


    need to remember that she is my mate,” I told her bluntly, ignoring the way pain etched on her face.


    I could see that she was visibly holding back s**bs. “She rejected you,” she said in a cracked voice.


    I shook my head. “I did not ept it, Safiya,” I told her in a matter of fact tone and she broke down


    into tears.


    “It doesn’t matter. She doesn’t want you. She left. She stayed away. She’s just trying to take away


    my happiness now and that’s why she came back. You’re letting that happen, Kaiden,” she cried,


    grabbing her fork and clenching it in her hands.


    For a second, I was scared she would stab herself and I kept my instincts razor sharp so I would be


    able to stop her from doing anything s**d.


    “I’m afraid you don’t know Freda. That’s quite unfortunate,” I said, shaking my head and walking


    away from her as she tossed the fork across the room and cried hard.
