Chapter Fourteen
FREDA WHITLOCK
I walked into the two bedroom apartment that was surprisingly sp**ous. I absolutely loved it. It would
be perfect for Francisco because he would have enough space to y and I would have enough
space to do my own thing.
Lyra carried in thest of my luggage and I smiled at her with gratitude. “Thanks a lot Lyra. I really
don’t know what I would do without you,” I told her as I spread my arms for a hug.
“It’s great to have you back home, Freda,” she sighed into my neck and I smiled, inhaling her scent
and letting my wolf connect with hers. She was like my soulmate, she was made to be my sister, my
partner, my best friend.
“How long are you staying?” She asked the question for the second time and I sighed as I settled
into one of the couches.
“I’ll stay with Dad.. until he’s not here anymore,” I spoke the words in the most gentle manner for
both of us, but we both knew what it meant.
She had something to say, but she hesitated and then wentpletely silent. I wanted her to say it,
but I knew that she would be trying to convince me to stay. I could not. I wouldn’t. I didn’t want to
hear her try to convince me.
“You should get some rest,” she said quietly and I nodded.
But before that…

“I saw Safiya,” “I told her. I had to.
She gulped and looked down at her hands. She knew. She had to have known. I chuckled
“She’s with Kaiden. They have a child and they’re expecting another, I told her. She looked both sad
and furious. “D**n, she said all that after seeing you for the first time in years? She really hasn’t
changed,” she fumed.
I chuckled. She looked at me sadly. “I didn’t want to tell you about it,” she whispered. I shook my
head immediately. “No, Lyra. I already knew that’s what would have happened and I would not have
wanted to hear it,” I said honestly.
She nodded.
“Get to bed. I’ll see you tomorrow. I’ll call you so we can meet at the infirmary,” she said and walked
towards the room where Francisco was lying asleep in his new bed.
“He’s gorgeous,” she whispered and leaned down to kiss his forehead.
I leaned against the doorframe. “No one knows about him?” I asked and she gave me a serious
nod. “Please keep it that way,” I pleaded with her and she gave me a nod. “I’ll do my best.” She
promised.
“Goodnight. I’ll see you tomorrow” she said and gave me onest hug before heading towards the
front door. I followed right behind her and locked the door.
I leaned against it and let out a sigh. Today had been really hectic and I did not have it in me to take
any more. I just needed

to lie down in bed and get some well deserved rest.
I pushed away from the door and headed towards my room after grabbing the nket and bedsheet
that Lyra had gotten for me. I did not have it in me to unbox my and Francisco’s luggage, but I
nned to do it the following day before I would go to the hospital.
Iid out the bed and shut down the part of me that cried desperately for a shower.
I was so tired that my knees were almost failing me. I headed to the bathroom, washed my face and
walked back to the room.
I switched off the lights andid back in the bed.
I had sessfully avoided as many people as possible and I had spent some quality time with my
best friend, my son and my father, the only true family I actually had.
I intended to keep it that way, but I knew it would not be possible, at least not for too long.
I yawned and turned over to my side. It was the calm I needed before the storm of all the attentionAll text ? N?velD(r)a''ma.Org.
from the pack members woulde for me. I would be ready though- I hoped I would be. And I
would definitely protect Francisco from everything.

“Hey,” Lyra yawned and took off the shades as I climbed out the car and walked towards her with
Francisco by my side. H was ying with the iPad but I did not want to take it away fr him because
he seemed to be enjoying his game. At this poin the iPad was no longer mine. I was going to have
to get anot
“What’s with the shades? I teased and she rolled her eyes before poking her face in mine. Thad a
hard time sleeping,” she murmured and I blinked at her.
“Why?” I asked curiously and she shook her head, stooping in front of Francisco who gave her a
kiss on her cheek. ‘TII exinter, she shook her head after showering his face with kisses. He
giggled and wrapped his arms around her neck.
I smiled at both of them and held out the fruit basket in my hand to her. “Got this for dad. Does he
still like berries?” I asked, looking at the assortment of berries I had gotten at a grocery store on my
way to the infirmary.
“He does. I bet he’ll love this,” she smiled at me and I smiled in
response.
“Come on,” she reached for Cisco’s hand and then led him into the infirmary.
We were chatting andughing when we walked into the ward. Thest thing I expected was to see
Safiya and my stepmother in there sitting with my father.
My heart dropped and I instantly grabbed Lyra’s hand, wanting her to bring Francisco along with her
so we would leave the
room.
“Grandpa!” Cisco eximed with joy and my feet got rooted in the spot. There was no escaping this,
because all attention in the room was turned to us.
