“The price,” she said, her voice echoing like the whisper of the wind through the night. “The price for
your Alpha’s return is two bonds of the heart.”
“No!” I gasped, looking over at my boys, my breath catching in my throat as her
words sank in. Two bonds. The fated mate bond that bound me to Knox and Kane.

“Is there no other way?” I asked only for Selene to pause and look over at my mates. Their
expressions unreadable yet painfully aware of the weight of the impending choice.
“Yes, which is why I have your mates frozen.” She expressed with a heavy sigh as if she, a celestial
being, was nervous to share the news with ME. Her voice, soft yetmanding, broke the silence
that hung heavy in the air.
“Lottie,” she began, her tone carrying a weight of solemnity and reverence, “There is more to the gift
I have bestowed upon you.”
“Can you just tell me?” I snapped, knowing my voice was sharp, but I couldn’t take the build–up; my
heart hammered in my chest, a mixture of curiosity and apprehension coursing through me as I
awaited for her revtion.
“What more could there be?” I groaned, my eyes flickering between my mates and Selene. What
further twist of fate awaited the three of us? “Have we not been through enough already?”
“Oh, sweet Charlotte, your journey has only just begun!” Seleneughed with a gentle grace before
she continued, her words weaving a tapestry of wonder and disbelief. “You carry within you,” she
said, her voice echoing like a gentle breeze through the night, “Life… Not one, but two precious
lives. Twins.”
“Pregnant?” I snorted in disbelief. “Twins… Are you Insane!” I couldn’t believe it. The word
reverberated In my mind, a symphony of astonishment and awe.

“Are you sure?” I asked, my eyes drifting down to my stomach. “I was hurt tonight; I fell..” Suddenly,
I remembered the events in the ballroom:
“I am sure!” She replied firmly.
“Twins!” I repeated. Two souls, two hearts, entrusted to my care…

“Two bonds!” Selene interjected my thoughts. “And… You owe two bonds of the heart.” Another
revtion rocked me to my core. I was to choose between my
mates and our children?
“You can’t be serious?” Iughed. “They are innocent!”
“I am. And I am sorry for that.” The Moon Goddess revealed, “Two lives growing inside you like
precious treasures, sweet girl!”
I was stunned, speechless! How was it possible? We had only been together for days, and yet here
I was, bearing the fruit of our union. Questions raced through my mind, doubts and fears wing at
the edges of my consciousness.

“Are they…” Looking back at my mates, whose faces were still as frozen as before, I let out a small
sob. “Ours?” I asked hesitantly, the words barely escaping my lips. “Or could they be… Mikes?” My
mind flitted back to my ex and the tangled web of our past.
“They are yours. Yours, Knox’s and Kanes!” she dered, her voice ringing with authority. “Each
child carries the essence of their father, a testament to the bond that unites you.”
“Thank heavens!” I whispered absentmindedly, stroking my stomach. I felt a surge of relief wash
over me, mingled with a sense of wonder at the miracle unfolding within me. Knox and Kane, my
mates, were the fathers of my children. It was a revtion that filled me with a newfound sense
of purpose, a connection that transcended time and space, yet the one giving me the blessing
wanted to take it

“How?” I asked, riddled with confusion.

“Two eggs, two fathers!” She admitted understanding what I was asking without the need for further
rification.
“Why?” I asked, my voice trembling with a mixture of disbelief and dread.
“Why must I choose between my fated mate bond and the lives of our unborn children?” My voice
cracked with the sorrow ripping me apart. The Moon Goddess met my gaze with a knowing look,
her eyes holding secrets that spanned aeons.
“Bnce must be maintained,” she replied cryptically. “And sometimes, sacrifices must be made to
preserve that bnce.” Her words sent a chill down my spine as I struggled toprehend the
gravity of her demands.
“Fuck bnce!” I snapped my hands,nding on my stomach protectively.
“You don’t mean that!” Selene sighed, “You respect the bnce and the old ways.” She admitted,
but I shook my head angrily.
“Not when it’s costing me everything.” I snapped, feeling lightheaded from the emotions rippling
through me.
“It is not costing you everything, dear, just two things. Your mates or your
children.”
“Oh, sorry, I didn’t realise it was that simple!” I roared, getting to my feet and pacing back and forth
as anger rippled through my chest.
“I know it’s not!” The Moon Goddess sighed. Her revtion struck like a thunderbolt, casting a
shadow over my newfound happiness. The lives growing within me were not just a blessing but a
burden to be borne, a payment for the debt owed to the universe. A sacrifice!
I nced back at Knox and Kane, their faces frozen in a mask of silent anguish. They had heard
everything and seen everything, and yet they were powerless to Intervene.

I felt a surge of disbelief rise within me, mingled with a sense of outrage at the injustice of it all. How
could things so precious, so pure as mates and children, be demanded as payment for our sins?
And yet, as I met the unwavering gaze of Selene and the frozen faces of my mates, their faces
twisted in a mask of anguish and despair, I knew they had a say in this, if Selene liked that or not!
This was no longer about a debt or my father’s plotting. It was OUR future!
“Unfreeze my mates, Selene.” I demanded.
“Sweet Charlotte.”
“No! Selene.. now! I need them!” Tears welled in my eyes as I rushed to their side, my hands
trembling as I brushed them over their faces, their warmth a bittersweet reminder of the love we
shared.
“I can’t pick!” I whispered, my voice choked with emotion. “I can’t choose between you and our
children. I won’t.” I sobbed, looking into the handsome faces. of the men I loved more than
anything… Almost anything!
