    Orion POV


    I chased after Mara, trying to get to her before she got to him. But just when I thought I would get a


    hold of her she would disappear between my fingers. “Mara No” I scream at her as I see her body start


    to ripple when she makes her way to hole in the ground. I could Thaddeus across the otherside. But


    Mara didn’t understand he is not her father while he is like that. Evie grabbed a hold of me as we fought


    from being tossed into the fiery hole of hell. I just make out Mara appearing next to her father.


    Fear coursing through me when he doesn’t recognise her, instead I watch as he conjures more


    and I feel Evie’s grip loosen as she is pulled toward the hole. Before being ripped away from. Her


    scream sends my blood cold as I see her wing at the ground trying to stop the invisible force


    dragging her. I let go of the tree. I had a hold of the wind blowing me and smashing me into her. I grab


    her before she slides in my hand clutching a piece of rebar jutting out of the road.


    “Thaddeus!” I call to him, the fire burning my feet, Evie screams as fire burns her legs and I turn


    trying to see Mara and see if she is okay but she was still tugging on his pants trying to get his


    attention. The wind carried her little voice to me as I clutched onto Evie, trying to pull her higher. Mara


    asks him to hold her. Her broken cries pulled at me.


    “Wrap your arms around my neck” I tell her and she does as I lift her pulling herself up higher.


    “Mara” She cries looking over my shoulder.


    “Climb up” I tell her using a free arm to push her up, she tries to reach the edge but falls back to


    me. I shove her up again pushing on her ass just the rebar bends from the heat, my hand slipping


    down as my grip loosens. Evie grabbing the edge just in time.


    “The wind is too strong” She screams over the wind.


    “Thaddeus!” I scream trying to get his attention.


    Mara looks over at me, her little eyes going wide before her eyes dart to her mother then back to


    Thaddeus. Her eyes glowing before her hands do and she touches his leg. Only nothing happens at


    first. I look at Evie before reaching up and pushing on her feet as she pushes off my hand shoving me


    further down the rebar but she was able to swing her leg, remaining close to the ground as she forced


    herself over. I feel relieved that she wasn’t about to fall to her death when I feel the metal melting


    beneath my fingers. “Get Mara” I scream to her before it gives, the bar sliding out and I lose my grip.


    Evelyn POV


    I haul myself up before turning around on my stomach and digging my ws into the melting road.


    My fingers burned fiercely as I fought the urge to dislodge them. An avnche of debris heading


    straight toward us as Thaddeus magic was consuming and swallowing the entire city slowly. I looked


    down at Orion before reaching one hand down to him but he was too far from my reach.


    “Get Mara” He screams up to me. A shriek leaving my lips when I see the bar slide out of the


    melting road and he drops. My scream rang loudly when I felt hands grip my waist, yanking me back


    and Orion was suddenly suspended in the air. Looking at who grabbed me, I find it is Rnd.


    “Hey love” He says and I notice Imogen standing beside him. Her Hand on his arm. Her eyes


    zing and the air suddenly stills. Dying out around us before starting again as her magic fought


    against his. Her other hand palm down holding it above Orion and I realise she is holding him in ce


    so he doesn’t plunge into theva below.


    “Get to Thaddeus, I can’t hold this long” She gasps out and I could see the sweat beading on her


    skin, her eyes flickering as she fought against her son''s magic.


    “Mara” I yelled to her. Her little head whips to me.


    “Bring mummy to daddy” I told her hoping she could. I would never make it over there. Her eyes


    glow before she is suddenly hanging onto my jeans.


    “Hey baby, take me to daddy” I tell her and I feel the suction of her magic warp around me, her


    magic was weaker but she still managed it and I find myself standing next to Thaddeus. I gasped at


    what she did, looking down at her as she clutched my pants. I shake Thaddeus, nothing. I even

    him, not even registering anything. I look at Imogen hoping she could tell me what to do when I see

    Imogen is staring at her son before her eyes fall on Mara in panic. I grab her, pulling her up to me.


    He was destroying everything and I watched Imogen grab them before misting out, taking them


    somewhere.


    “Daddy wont stop, make him stop” Mara cried tears slipping down her face, I reached up running


    my hand over his chest and stopping above his heart, sparks rushing over my hand yet he didn’t feel


    them . I look up at his ck eyes, ck veins snaking around his body before he looks down at us, his


    eyes flickering for a second before he shakes his head and looks straight ahead again not recognising


    us.


    Mara cries louder, the wind picking up speed and I grab him, sandwiching her between us and


    protecting her from the wind and stopping us blowing away as I wrap my arms around his waist. The


    noise bes louder as the wind picks up in intensity, the heat in the air growing hotter.


    “Mara baby, you need to mist out of here,” I tell her.


    “I can’t” She cries, her arms clutching around my neck.


    “Feed on me” I tell her but she shakes her head.


    “No, me stay with daddy,” She screams at me. I shake my head.


    “You need to leave daddy, he is being bad” I tell her not knowing how to tell her, her father was


    going to kill us. She shakes her head.


    “No daddy good, he my daddy” She cries, turning and clutching him. I feel him falter, the wind


    stopping for a second before restarting and I realise he was fighting it.


    “Tell daddy,” I tell her. Pushing her higher so she could reach his neck. My heart was hammering in


    my chest that she was so close to his face and he could literally rip her apart and feed on her but I


    didn’t know what else to do. She grabs his face before hugging him. Her little arms going around his


    neck and I hang on tighter. Listening to her talk to him and listening to her cry. The sound is breaking


    my heart.


    “I love you daddy” I hear her tell him, making me look up at her, her head on his shoulder as she


    kisses his chin. I was going to have to drag her away. The wind is picking up speed, and I look around


    for a way to get out of here. I knew Mara wouldn’t mist us out when suddenly everything fell silent. The


    wind stopped abruptly and I felt a hand in my hair pulling me closer.


    “Daddy?” I hear Mara say, making me look up.


    “My girls” Thaddeus says and I feel relief choke me.


    Thaddeus leans down kissing my head and I clutch him tighter. He presses his lips to Mara’s


    cheek before inhaling her scent. The sky clears and I see the fire smother itself. Sending plumes of


    smoke into the air.


    “Let''s go home” Mara says, her hand patting his cheek.
