    chapter 14

“Tobias is busy, he will be in a littleter,” he told me. I just nodded and looked away. As soon as

the door opened Theo walked out and straight to his office. Thank god I did my hair and make-up in the

locker. That was the most awkward exchange we have ever had. It’s like he couldn’t get away from me

fast enough. Going to my desk, I switched theputer on and turned the phones over, when I

pumped my hip on the edge of the table. I hissed at the jolt of pain. I had been cleaning it regrly and

changing the dressing. It was taking a long time to heal, and I was starting to worry it was getting

infected. Checking Theo was still in his office, I walked over to the small bathroom. I hadn’t checked it

    since yesterday.

Pulling my blouse up, I peeled back the bandage. The edge stuck and I could feel the fabric pulling

    at the edge of the wound. It started bleeding. Grabbing a tissue, I dabbed at it. It was definitely infected;

the skin was red and angry the edges just wouldn’t close together, so the slightest bump made it

reopen. Suddenly the door burst open. I dropped my shirt covering myself, but it was toote. Theo

seen it in the mirror above the sink. His face contorted before he dropped his gaze. His jaw clenched

and I could see the vein in his head near his temple pulse. I was positive I locked the door; how did he

    get in?

Lifting my head up, I met his gaze. He looked like he was struggling to stay in control of his temper.

Ignoring my stunned expression, he walked over and lifted the corner of my blouse. “How did you do

that?” he asked looking up at me. I could have sworn he whispered barely audible for me to hear, “I

knew I smelt blood.” I looked back wondering if I heard what I thought I did, but he was inspecting the

sh across my hip. “I asked how you did it?” his voice stern.

“On a piece of wire,” I told him.

    “When?”

Ignoring him, I tried to pull my shirt back down. He just pushed my hand aside. “This is infected,

talking so fast into the phone I didn’t catch a word of what he said. “Sit” He ordered. I sat down, not

knowing what else to do. I didn’t want to get in any more trouble than I know I am already in. I will be

grateful if they don’t fire me after learning I have been trespassing for months in the carpark.

After about twenty minutes, a man walked in. He had a white doctor’s coat on and scrubs

underneath. He carried a huge box that I’m assuming is a medical kit. Theo motioned towards me and I

stood up before the doctor pushed me towards the lounge. “Lay down, Imogen” Theo told me. I looked

at him the way he spoke was like he was furious with me.

I quickly obeyed and the doctor silently lifted my shirt. He didn’t say a word to me. He pulled my

shirt up and the side of my pants down exposing my hip. He prodded me, before getting to work. I

winced when he cleaned it when he was done doing that. He pulled out a needle. I jumped up, but

Theo forced me back. “Don’t make me hold you down,” he challenged. I rxed my shoulders.

“This may hurt like a sharp scratch,” the doctor told me. I nodded and focused on his face while he

went to work stitching me up. The doctor was maybe thirty years old at most, not that old at all for a

doctor. He had dark hair and brown eyes the same colour as mud. He tried to be gentle, but it didn’t

stop the hurt and sting, my hands began to sweat, he stopped a few times when I would wriggle too

much. One look from Theo though made me freeze.

When he was done, he ced waterproof gauze over the top and stood up. Rummaging through

his bag, he handed me a bottle of pills. “Take these three times a day, they will help clear up the

infection.” I grabbed the small bottle and read it. Cephalexin, an antibiotic. I nodded and looked up to

say thanks, but he was already gone.

Theo however was watching me. “Why didn’t you get that looked at earlier? You could have

avoided all this.” He motioned with his hand. He sounded angry and I dropped my eyes to the floor.

“Because I hate hospitals,” my voice soft, almost a whisper. Theo stepped closer his hand

reaching my chin forcing me to look at him. His eyes searching mine for any deception. I don’t know

what he saw but he let go and walked out, leaving me standing in his office.

Walking back out, I made my way to the desk and sat down. I started answering emails and

phones. Theo strolled back in about three hourster and ced a ss of water on the desk. “Your

antibiotics, take them then eat this. Come and see me when you are done, I need to speak to you.

Tobias will be back soon.” I nodded. He shoved the ss in my hand and waited for me to swallow the

tablets down, before shoving a sandwich in my hand, it was a BMT.I opened it and he walked away.

I ate quickly, not wanting to make him wait. I just wanted to get the scolding over with and

hopefully still have a job after. Nerves kicked in as I walked towards his office. I went to knock when he

opened the door and motioned for me to sit down across from him at his desk. Taking my seat, I went

to apologise and beg for him not to fire me.

“Just wait, Tobias will be here in a second.”

No sooner had a second passed and in walked Tobias. He walked over to us and ced his hands

on either side of the chair I was sitting in. I looked up and swallowed. Losing my train of thought, I was

shirt buttons were undone, revealing his chest. I could tell he had a tattoo but couldn’t tell what it was.

“We need to talk,” he spoke, his voice like velvet. I had to remember to breathe. When I looked

straight ahead towards Theo, he had moved he was sitting on the edge of the desk between my legs. I

gulped audibly fear consuming me. Usually Theo was moreid back, but even he right now was

towering over me making me feel even smaller. I could feel the heat of Tobias seeping into my skin

through my back, feel his breath on my neck he was that close.

Tobias hands gripped my shoulders, his hands running down my arms. Everywhere his hands ran

goosebumps rose on my exposed skin, his hand stopping just above my elbows. I shivered

involuntarily, Theo noticing my reaction smirked, his eyes darkened a little, and I found my eyes locked

on his. I struggled to look away, only managing to break my gaze when Tobias hands ran back up to

my shoulders, his fingers brushing my hair off my shoulder. Looking up his face was barely an inch off

mine. He looked like he was in some sort of trance, his eyes zed over as his fingers ran up the sides

    of my neck so lightly.

Something swelled within me,ing alive. Sparks moved along my skin and my lips parted. A

moan escaping my lips, shocking not only me but Tobias. I quickly covered my mouth with my hands,

stunned by my reaction to his warm hands gliding across my skin.

I went to get up, when Tobias pulled himself together and stood up and walked over to Theo who

was still perched on the end of his desk. Tobias sat beside him. They both stared for a second before

Theo spoke. “We know you have been staying in the carpark, don’t try to deny it. We have spoken to

Tom who verified.” I went to apologise and beg for my job. Yeah, pathetic I know but my job was the

only thing I had left, I couldn’t afford to lose that too. “Where are you staying now?” Theo asked, not

    letting me speak.

I tried toe up with a believable lie. I suck at lying. I would never be a good poker yer. How

the hell was I going to lie to them and not give myself away? Before I could answer though, Tobias

stepped in, his answer astonished me.
