Chapter 114

    Ang’s POV

I didn’t return home that night. I waited till morning to leave my mom’s side. She hadn’t eaten since Brittany took herst breath at the hospital and I was determined to help put her back together. I had to move in with her. I was all she had. It would be bad if I turned my back on her.

I would give it two days before I move in with her for a while.

As I arrived at home, I saw Mason and Velicia in the kitchen. She was busy making breakfast while Masonughed at something she said. I was like a stranger in a ce I’d turned to home. They both turned to look at me and before they could say a word, I walked away.

I entered Reina’s room to see Darius helping her get ready. I took Reina from his hand without a prior warning and put her on the bed.

I smiled at her. “Morning mama,” she said cheekily

    “Morning babes. Slept well?”

    “Yes, mama,”

“Good. Let’s get you ready to go see your grandma. She misses you and she wants to see you,”

She smiled at me excitedly. “Yes, I can’t wait to see grandma. Can we wait till after breakfast? Daddy’s girlfriend is making breakfast,”

Daddy’s girlfriend? “I didn’t know your daddy had a girlfriend,”

“She’s pretty, isn’t she?” She asked me.

Darius growled lowly. Both Reina and I turned to look at him. “You know what she meant by that, Baby,” Darius addressed me.

“Do I?” I asked with an eyebrow raised.

    “She’s making his favorite,”

A terrible ache began in my chest. “Wow, I didn’t know your dad had a favorite food. He never told me he did. I’m guessing this girlfriend of his knows him better than I do,”

    Reina giggled. “She does,”

If she wasn’t my daughter, I would’ve smacked her ass but I frowned at her instead and she stopped giggling. She didn’t know what was wrong but she knew she had to stop.

“It’s not what you think,” Darius began.

“It’s never about what I think. It’s about what you tell me,” I gave him a fake smile and ignored him.

We took some of Reina’s coloring books and 1 began searching for her bag.

What are you looking for?” Darius asked and 1 ignored him totally.

He groaned. “If I don’t know what you’re searching for, I can’t help you,”

1 frowned. “I’ve been gone for just two days, Dairues, not two years. Things are still supposed to be the way I left them, shouldn’t they? I lost my sister but I shouldn’t be a mess of a mother to my daughter.”

And I’m losing you too! I almost added that part but I stopped.

“That’s not what I mean. If you’re searching for her bag, I kept it downstairs on the dining tablest night so I’ll find it quickly,”

I took a deep breath. “thanks,”

I held Reina’s hand and we walked out of the room. We got to the dining area and I couldn’t find her bag but instead, several meal tes were on the table. I searched the living room and I found her bag on the chair. I put in her coloring books and pencils.

I looked around to see Reina sitting at the dining table, staring at the meals while salivating.

    “Reina, let’s go,” Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDra/ma.O(r)g!

She turned to me. I was expecting her to look at me disappointedly but instead, she smiled as if she understood.

    “Okay, mama,”

Velicia and Mason came out of the kitchen.

“At least you guys should have breakfast before leaving,” Velicia suggested.

    “We’re not hungry, thank you,”

Mason pointed to Reina. “I think that little princess is hungry, Ang, right baby?”

Reina shook her head. “I’m not hungry, Uncle Mason,” she replied.

I beamed with a proud smile. That girl has been mine longer than they’ve known her. She was my soul in human form. I tried not to push any burden or any worries on her because I didn’t want to traumatize her. She was my girl, my baby.

“Maybe I can pack some meals for you guys,” Velicia suggested.

I turned to Reina. “What do you think, Babes?”

    “No, thank you, ma’am,”

I lifted my head and looked at her. “She said no. Thank you,”

Reina smiled at me and I held her hand. I’d already made a scrumptious breakfast at my mom’s before leaving. She would have her fill. While I was in Ryker’s den, I’d promised to give Reina ice cream vor she wanted as long as she wanted it and I nned on fulfilling that promise I made to myself.

“Can we talk, Ang?” Velicia or Grace asked.

I stared at her with my infamous mischievous smile. “Sorry, Grace,” I stopped. “Or Velicia. We don’t have anything important to talk about. I already heard the most important information from Darius and it’s fine. I’m grateful that you saved me from Ryker’s den and I owe you that. Aside from that, there’s nothing to talk about,”

    “I was wondering…“.

I interrupted her. “I have a funeral to n, Velicia or Grace. I can’t stay around and talk. Thank you for the food once more,”

Together with my daughter, I walked out of the house.

    “Ang,”

Darius called from behind me. He was incredibly silent when I heard the conversation with his ex-

    wife.

    “Yes, Darius,”

“I know you’re mad at me and I’m sorry I lied to you,”

    “It must’ve been fun,”

    “What?”

“The three of you must’ve had fun making a fool out of me. You lying she’s dead, her lying she didn’t know who you are and Mason pretending he didn’t know my sister was dead or that your beloved ex–wife just saved my pathetic, useless ass,”

    “Baby,”

“Please don’t. I don’t really want to talk much about anything because I don’t want to say anything bad to you or sound like I’m ungrateful but for some reason, it hurts. I can’t exin why but I’m hurting. I was nning on staying at my mom’s starting on Wednesday but I’ve changed my mind,”

“What the fuck are you talking about, Ang?”

“I and Reina would be at my mom’s from today. I’lle back for our thingster. I really don’t want to spoil your beautiful family reunion right now,”

I held my daughter’s hand tightly and we both walked away together. She was happy she would be seeing her grandma and I, on the other hand, was trying so hard to stop the tears from falling.
