    I might have beenpelled to confront the "so-called disgrace" head-on, instead of having my most unspeakable vulnerabilitiesid bare before him.


    The flickering light painted jagged shadows on his face. His eyes, looking at me, reflected worry and pain.


    My face looked pale and hollow in his gaze, and for a moment, I felt lost. As long as he was here, all I wanted was to rely on him.

    No one knew where they were taking her. A trail of blood stained the pristine white carpet behind her.


    The entire hall fell silent. Some women, overwhelmed with fear and disgust, covered their mouths, sobbing.


    Everyone turned to Nelson, who was sprawled over the stage, their gazes filled with revulsion-as if staring at a demon. The girl in the video looked no older than ten.
