Chapter 72 The Best Lawyer
“Yao Tang, stop right there!” Luo Hua tried to catch up with her, but she was too fast. By the time he had moved, he could already see her sprinting down the corner-disappearing as fast as he could blink.
“That girl,” he sputtered. “Has she no respect?” Xi Yan pursed her lips, not even bothering to chase her student. Instead, she assisted Yao Ranfrom the railing and tilted her head. “Are you okay?” She might as well tend to this student first.
On the way back, Yao Tang’s phone rang. “Hello?”
Cheng Yan blinked, stunned by the girl’s haunted voice. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
He didn’t ask any further. Instead, he leaned back against his seat and tilted his head. “Well, how do you want to deal with it?”
Yao Tang shoved her hand into her pocket, wanting the feel of her cigarette. However, upon only feeling for a lollipop, she tore it open and stuffed it in her mouth. “It’s already all over the ce,” she murmured. “Might as well let it blow up a little more. I want to settle this once and for all.”
“Then, I’ll go prepare,” he responded. “Do you want to attend the court session?”
“Hm.”
The phone was silent for a few seconds when he took a deep breath. “Look, I know that you have a bad temper but…” he hesitated. “Just leave this matter to me. Don’t act too rashly, okay?”
Yao Tang’s ruthlessness might do her more harm than good.
“I got it,” she stated before hanging up.
Another expose had been published on the inte.
It turned out that the criminal Cao Gang, who had just been released, was dered to still be mentally unstable by the best psychologists in the city. There was arge possibility of him acting out on his impulse again, they had stated. In order to avoid the widespread panic, he was ced under custody once again.
Jiang Shen, the bestwyer in Beijing, took the case and sued Cao Gang for all that he’s done.
Twelve years ago, criminals had been protected if they were dered to be mentally ill. Now, thew was changed after many had abused thew. Criminals must take responsibility for their actions.
Cao Gang hadmitted a terrible offense, and as such, he’d be sentenced to death.
Jiang Shen had posted on his Weibo ount in response to the crime.
“Thew has been utilized to protect its people, and it should not be exploited by mindless criminals. As Yang Rong’swyer, I will make sure that criminals like Cao Gang would pay the price for his faults. I will not take a single cent from Yang Rong. Justice is the only payment I need.”
Jiang Shen was the best of the best in his field. He usually charges around a million yuan per engagement. The fact that he wasn’t charging Yang Rong was well-received by his fellow countrymen.
“Well done,wyer Jiang!”
“Damn, he ruined the girl’s life! Twelve years is too short-let him go under the death penalty.”
“He really looks evil.”
“The bastard doesn’t have morals!”
Jiang Shen had not fought in court for almost a year, that is, until this case.
Everyone was surprised. At the bar, his friend couldn’t help but regard Jiang Shen with a raise his eyebrow. “Cao Gang really couldn’t escape the death penalty no matter what anyone does. You can leave this case to your associates,” he said. “The number onewyer had no reason to partake in such a substandard case.”
Why use a gun to kill a chicken when they could simply use a knife?
Grabbing his wine ss, he narrowed his eyes. “Do you think I’m that good?”
“Is there really anywyer in this country who’s better than you?” his friend countered.
There was a period of silence when Jiang Shen smiled. “Yes.”
“Really? You’re kidding me, right?” His friend’s jaw dropped. “I’ve never heard such a person who had ever beaten you at court.”
“Ah.” His smile became a bit more nostalgic. “She had defeated me then.”
“Huh.”
“I still have something else to do. I’ll leave first.” Jiang Shen ced his wine ss back onto the table, patted him on the shoulder, and left.
Yang Rong’s case had be such a hot topic in the country. Almost everyone had heard of it, even those in the upper society. Jiang Shen’s presence in court made it all the more memorable.
A weekter, the trial began. On the same day, Yao Tang applied for a leave. As soon as she walked out of the school’s gates, she could see Cheng Yan’s SUV parked right in front of her.
The window lowered, revealing a handsome young man sitting in the back seat. The man was wearing a striped suit over his buttoned-up shirt. There was a strong sense of normalcy and confidence in his movements like he had it all figured out.
His sharp eyes were as cold as they were evil, yet there was something about his features that was enough to make any woman go wild. “I have to go,” he murmured to his phone and slipped it back into his pockets.
Throwing his cigarette into the ashtray, he stepped out.
Yao Tang narrowed her eyes in acknowledgment.
“Let’s go,” he said, lifting his chin toward the car. “Get in.”
“Hm.”
As soon as they had gotten in, Yao Tang raised her eyebrows. “Will you be my personal chauffeur from this point forward?”
“Would you like me to?” He smiled. “Why are you doing this?” She remained indifferent from his seduction.
“What do you think?” His eyes glinted.
Yao Tang simply smiled, not bothering to say another word. In the driver’s seat, Qin Hao shook his head. Aplicated look shone in his eyes. This case really had nothing to do with them, yet Cheng Yan had taken time off his busy schedule to pick up Miss Yao.
