Chapter 17
“What the heck are you doing!” Kristin burst into the courtyard in time to catch the nanny kicking
Summer.
With a trembling voice, Kristin instinctively rushed over, shoved the nanny aside, and pulled Summer
into her arms. “Mommy’s here. Dear Summer, you’re okay.”
Summer was in severe pain and started to cry. “Mommy…”
Shaking. Kristin held Summer tight and looked up at those who bullied a child with contempt.
The FitzGerald family and even their servants are such disgustingly vile creatures.
“The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, huh? He stole Milo’s toy and broke it,” the nanny said
mockingly, looking down from her high horse. “Like mother, like son, huh?”
“I heard this kid’s a bastard child. Who knows who his dad is? Probably no good, just like him. A
thieving mom and a loser dad, what chances did the kid have?”
The servants all sneered at Summer and Kristin because Kristin used to be a high and mighty young
lady but was even beneath them.
It was also because her child didn’t have a father.
“Summer, don’t listen…” Kristin covered Summer’s ears, not wanting him to hear the filth of this world.
“Where do you think you’re going? Have him kneel and apologize to me, or I won’t let this slide.” Milo
demanded arrogantly, having picked up Eve and Vincent’s overbearing ways.
Connor and Vincent were two sides of the same coin, both born of the same mother. Naturally. Milo
bore a striking resemnce to Vincent, especially the way he demanded Summer to kneel, an exact
replica of Vincent’s own domineering nature.
Kristin ignored Milo, intent on taking Summer back to the storeroom.
“Mr. Milo is talking to you. Are you deaf? A pair of thieves,” the nanny said as she shoved Kristin to the
ground again.
Kristin instinctively protected Summer, injuring her ankle again, cold sweat breaking out all over her
body from the pain.
“Summer wouldn’t steal your toy,” Kristin believed in her son. He was so well–behaved and sweet. He
couldn’t have stolen the toy.
“It was him. Make him apologize to my Superman!” Milo insisted on an apology to a toy.
Though it was childish behavior, Kristín felt humiliated.
Everyone seemed to feel free to insult her and Summer.
“Mommy…” Summer’s eyes were red as he clung to Kristin. “Mommy, I’ll apologize. But

Chapter 17
Mommy…* Summer, trembling with the fear of Kristin being wronged. He was only five, after all. “I
didn’t steal his Superman. It broke when he threw it. I just wanted to fix it.”
Kristin’s grip on her son tightened, holding him close. “Mommy believes in you, Summer. You don’t
have to apologize.”
Patting her son’s back, Kristin knelt on the ground and spoke softly. “Mr. Milo, I apologize to you. It was
me who stole and broke your toy. Is that enough?*
Milo stood there with hands on his hips, smug as ever. “Bad woman.”
“She’s a thiel, stole the life of a youngdy, and keeps stealing around the house.”
Kristin found it so ironic. She had only returned, and everyone knew she wouldn’t steal a child’s toy, but
because of her tarnished reputation, all the me fell on her.
“What’s going on? I left my ne on the washbasin when I washed my hands. Where is it?” In the
front hall, Eve came out, clearly annoyed.
She usually didn’te home. She was just there to pick up Milo.
Just a few hours and the ce was swarming with sticky fingers.
The servants exchanged nces, all nervously looking down.
After a moment, someone pointed at Kristin. “It must be her. She’s a thief, a repeat offender. She even
admitted to stealing Mr. Milo’s toy for her son.”
Eve’s expression darkened as she approached for a better look.
Seeing Kristin again, surprise shed in Eve’s eyes, which quickly turned to disdain. “Kristin?”
Vincent had mentioned Kristin was out of jail, but she didn’t expect it to be true.
“You’ve got some nerve, showing up here with your bastard child. You shamed my brother back in the
day, and you still have the gall toe knocking with your kid after getting out? nning to cling to my
brother, huh?” Eve’s anger was palpable, assuming Kristin hade to pester
Vincent.
Kristin said nothing but bowed her head, fiercely protecting Summer.
“Miss Eve, she must have stolen the ne,” a servant took the opportunity to throw dirt.
Kristin felt powerless to exin. Who would believe she’d just returned?
“Did you take my ne?” Eve looked at Kristin as if watching a soap opera.
Unbelievable, five years in the clink and a person can change so much.
“No, I didn’t…” Kristin’s voice was hoarse as she spoke.

“How can you prove it?” Eve raised an eyebrow.
“Miss Eve, make her strip down to prove she’s not hiding anything. If she refuses, it means she’s
guilty,” the nanny suggested mockingly.
