    Chapter 69 Green Ne

His overbearing tone made Margaret stop breathing for a second.

She could not help but to stop crying.

"Do you want me to send you back?" Charleston asked in a gentle, helpless voice when he heard the

petite woman in his arms grow quiet.

Margaret sniffed and answered softly, "I will find a way to return the money to you as soon as possible."

The look on Charleston''s face suddenly changed when she mentioned the money.

"Don''t worry about the money," said Charleston.

Margaret subconsciously replied, "I don''t want to owe you anything."

    The room fell into silence.

Margaret felt like Charleston could kill someone with his eyes right now. She trembled uncontrobly at

    the thought of that.

However, Charleston hugged her tight and ordered, "Don''t move. Otherwise, I don''t know what I will

    do."

Charleston then stared deeply at Margaret''s lips.

This stupid little mouth really could not say anything pleasant at all.

Charleston held Margaret up by her waist and knees and headed outside.

His action had scared Margarets out of her wits.

She did not move at all.

She was nestled in Charleston''s arms like a well-behaved rabbit.

They approached a ck, luxurious car.

Margaret was nted right on the front seat.

    The car started moving steadily.

Neither of them spoke along the way.

There was only silence inside the car.

    An awkward silence.

    Margaret''s eyes shifted.

She looked at Charleston from the corner of her eyes.

The man''s elegant, arched body and his indifferent temperament fascinated the woman.

Margaret thought that if she had not known about the true nature of this man...

She would really be attracted to him.

He was quite the seductive enchanter.

The car stopped below Margaret''s house.

Margaret got out of the car. Her eyes shot all over the ce as she did not dare look directly into

Charleston''s eyes. "Thank you for sending me home. I will find a way to get the money as soon as

    possible."

After she finished her words, she instantly turned around and ran away like a little hamster who had

    stolen some sunflower seeds.

Charleston smiled helplessly as he looked at Margaret''s figure dashing off into the night.

All of a sudden, he thought of something.

    Charleston stopped smiling.

What on earth made Margaret''s mood change so drastically and made her borrow money from him?

Charleston thought for a moment and finally took out his mobile phone. He called Larry.

"Check the ount I asked you to transfer money to earlier."

Charleston had asked Larry to run a background check on Margaret previously.

It was suspicious that no such thing emerged from the check.

This was such an important thing to Margaret, yet it managed to slip through the grasp and power of

    the Limbaugh family.

If that was the case, it was very likely that someone with simr influence had made this piece of

    information disappear.

    "Yes, Sir!" Larry nodded.

After some time, Larry replied, "There was nothing suspicious about the ount."

This was the most suspicious part.

"Sir, do you need me to send someone to Milesburg?" Larry asked.

If they could not investigate anything with the power they had in Milesburg, then they could only do it

    the old-fashioned way.

They had to send someone to the ce where Margaret had been staying in Milesburg.

Then, they could investigate from there.

"There''s no need." Charleston finally spoke after a moment of silence.

His gaze fell onto the building.

"Little one, I''ll wait for you to tell me personally." Charleston thought to himself.

"I''ll wait for the moment you''re ready to share all your secrets with me."

After hanging up the phone, Charleston''s car slowly left.

Margaret went back to her room.

Before she had time to rest, she received a phone call from Stephanie.

"What is it?" Margaret said impatiently.

A lot of bad things seemed to have happened to her recently.

"Margaret, the Simons family is holding a banquet tomorrow. I''d like to invite you over," Stephanie said

    with a smile.

    Margaret replied impatiently, "No thanks."

"You don''t have the right to refuse." Stephanie snorted, "Listen up, what I want is for you to attend."

"Stephanie, who do you think you are to threaten me?" Margaret raised her eyebrows.

"If I recall, your mother left a box for you before she passed away." Stephanie said disapprovingly.

That struck a chord with Margaret.

Margaret''s mother was a proper youngdy from a wealthy family.

On the other hand, her father was just an ordinary employee. If it were not for her, he would not be the

    man he was now.

However, when Margaret''s grandfather passed awayter on, William seized the opportunity and got

full control of the family''s power. That was how he became who he was now.

However, no one expected William to be so ungrateful.

Not only did he have a mistress and an illegitimate daughter, but he also made Melissa leap off a

    building andmit suicide.

Before her death, Melissa had a box that she kept close to her which had something important in it.

Margaret had been trying to locate the box for years, but she did not expect that it would be in

    Stephanie''s hands.

"What the hell do you want?" Margaret gritted her teeth.

"Calm down. I just want you toe to the banquet." Stephanie smiled.

"Where and when?" Margaret had no choice but topromise.

The box was too important to her.

There was no other way. She had to get it no matter what.

Stephanie hung up the phone with a smile after she told Margaret the time and address of the banquet.

She then opened the box in her hands.

She found a string of green gemstone ne inside.

It seemed like it had a long history.

    It also looked exquisitely expensive.

Stephanie had been very fond of the ne ever since sheid her eyes on it. After pondering for a

bit, she decided to keep the ne for herself.

She immediately swapped it with an ordinary ne which she carefully ced into the box.

    ...

After Margaret hung up, she feebly fell onto the big, soft bed.

She knew that Stephanie had something up her sleeves. If she went there, there would surely be some

    danger.

    However, Margaret had to go.

That box was the most important thing to her mother before she died.

She had to bring the box home.

Thus, she had no choice but to go with the flow and see if there was any way to avoid it closer to the

    banquet.

    Margaret sighed.

    ...

The banquet was held at the Simons family''s vi.

Margaret was only wearing a in white dress. Her attire seemed to be a little out of ce with

    everyone else''s.

"Miss, I''m sorry. Please show me your invitation card." The guard looked at Margaret and said.

    Invitation?

Stephanie did not give her any sort of invitation card.

Margaret raised her eyebrows and said, "Sorry, I''ll make a phone call first."

After that, Margaret went to the side and called Stephanie.

Unexpectedly, she could not get through to her.

Stephanie had turned off her phone!

"What''s going on?" At that moment, a dignified voice asked.

"Sir, thisdy does not have an invitation," the guard replied.

Margaret turned around and met a strange yet familiar face.

    Ha.

    William.

    Her "good father"!

William''s eyes met Margaret''s. He asked disgustedly, "Why are you here?"
