    Outside the room, Jameson called out, “Howard, you awake? I need to talk to you?


    Howard opened the door and saw him standing there. “Gwendolyn’s asleep. Let’s talk outside,” he


    said, closing the door gently behind him.


    Jameson looked pale and asked hesitantly, “How’s her injury?”


    “Just spit it out,” Howard said, his expression detached and his voice low.

    grandfather…”


    “He’s not my grandfather anymore.” Howard cut in, seeing through it all. “I know you’ve been visiting


    the hospital a lot. If you want to honor your duties, that’s your business.”


    Jameson rubbed his hands together nervously. “Warren is old and in pain. He’s been discharged


    tonight, and Jarvis only cares about his


    shares.”


    Cleaning his tears, Jameson continued, “Howard, he is… after all, my father. The harsh treatment we


    received was partly because my birth led to my mother’s death in childbirth. If you have to me


    someone, me me.”


    Jameson was good natured and kind–hearted but foolishly dutiful.


    “So now you’re nning to ask Gwendolyn to heal him? She’s got a soft heart. Don’t exploit her


    kindness.”


    Jarvis could potentially ask for her help, but she had every right to refuse them outright. But if Jameson
