    Chapter 146

#146 “You Do Enjoy Keeping Me in Suspense.”

Benjamin stormed out of Sophia’s office, barely containing the real reason for his anger. If he had

lingered a second longer, he might have spilled the truth.

The rumors about Alexander and Sophia being together tormented Benjamin, robbing him of peaceful

sleep. He had been in love with Sophia since the moment heid eyes on her.

For years, Benjamin had concealed his feelings, secretly hoping for a chance, especially after Sophia’s

divorce. However, the rumors of her involvement with Alexander shattered those hopes.

The way Sophia and Alexander bantered, her smile when she spoke to him, it all drove Benjamin to the

brink. Unable to endure the sight, he left, seething with jealousy.

While he genuinely wished for Sophia’s happiness, the thought of her being with Alexander gnawed at

him. Benjamin, distrusting Alexander and suspecting him of ulterior motives, couldn’t shake off the

feeling that he was taking advantage of her.

Jealousy consumed Benjamin, propelling him into the streets with a purpose. He wasn’t going to let

things stand. Determined, he intended to reveal Alexander’s true colors to Sophia.

The afternoon sun bathed Alexander’s sleek, modern office in a warm glow as he leaned back in his

leather chair, fingers tapping rhythmically on the polished surface. Laura, his sharp- witted and ever-

efficient secretary, walked in with a cup of coffee in hand.

“Hey, Laura, have a seat. I’ve got something to share,” Alexander greeted her with a charming smile.

Laura took a seat across from him, eyeing him curiously. “Of course, what is going on? You seem

    unusually chipper.”

Alexander chuckled, a mischievous glint in his eyes. ” Sophia agreed on a date tonight. Let’s just say,

    things are progressing quite well.”

Laura raised an eyebrow, a yful smirk ying on her lips. “Ah, the elusive Sophia. I’ve been waiting

    for this update.”

Alexander chuckled, enjoying the banter. “And that’s not all. I’ve decided to step up my game. I want

this date to be perfect, so I need your expertise.”

Laura smirked, “My expertise in romance? You must be desperate.”

Alexander winked, “Consider it a punishment for telling her my n before me. I need you to design at

least 10 romantic date ns for me.”

Lauraughed, “Punishment epted. But seriously, I’m happy for you. Sophia is not an easy one to

    crack.”

Alexander grinned at Laura’s remark, appreciating her sense of humor. “I think it’s time to get ready for

your date, Alexander. It’s gettingte,” she said, ncing at the clock on the wall.

“You’re right. I’ll leave the office, but if something urgentes up…” Alexander began.

“I know, I know, I’ll only call you if someone’s dying. Do not worry,” Laura quipped, rolling her eyes in

    mock exaggeration.

“You’re the best,” Alexander grinned, acknowledging her wit. With a final wave, he gathered his

belongings and headed out of the office, leaving the world of business behind for the night.

Alexander arrived at Sophia’s doorstep, a mischievous glint in his eyes and a casual air about him. He

had made a promise to Sophia that, for once, he wouldn’t do the usual sharp suit.

Tonight, he opted for a more rxed look-jeans that hugged him in all the right ces and a well-fitted

t-shirt that hinted at his toned physique.

As Sophia opened the door, her eyes widened at the sight of Alexander’s departure from his usual

formal attire. A slow, appreciative smile spread across his face, and he couldn’t help but admire the

    surprise twinkling in hers.

“You clean up well,” she teased, her gaze lingering on his outfit.

“Thought I’d give the suits a break tonight,” Alexander chuckled, his voice holding a yful undertone.

He extended his arm, inviting Sophia to loop hers through.

Sophia couldn’t contain her curiosity as Alexander drove through the city, the destination unknown. She

turned to him with a yful grin, “So, Alex, are you going to tell me where we’re headed, or is it a

    surprise?”

Alexander shed a mysterious smile. ” Ah, that would ruin the fun, wouldn’t it? Just trust me; it’s going

to be a night to remember.”

Sophia chuckled, “You do enjoy keeping me in suspense, don’t you?”

“Well, life should have a bit of mystery, don’t you think?” Alexander replied, his eyes twinkling with

    mischief.

Sophia leaned back in her seat, “Fair enough. But I hope it’s somewhere with good food; I’m starving.”

“Oh, it’s better than just ‘good’ food,” Alexander teased. “I’ve got something special nned.”

Sophia raised an eyebrow, “Special, huh? Now you’ve really piqued my interest.”

Alexander smiled, and Sophia couldn’t help but admire how handsome he looked tonight. His choice of

simpler clothes somehow transforms into a fashion statement, exuding an effortless charm.

    “You’re quiet,” Alexander teased her.

“I just think you look great in those clothes. One wonders how they would look on…”

“Sophia, I swear if you finish this sentence, I will stop the car,” Alexander warned her, his eyes

    darkening with yful seriousness.

“On my floor,” Sophia grinned, pushing the boundaries.

Alexander smoothly maneuvered through the traffic, skillfully steering the car off the main road. Sophia

bursts intoughter, the thrill of the unexpected adding to the excitement.

As Alexander stepped out of the car, Sophia looked at him, her expression shifting from amusement to

    curiosity.

He opened the car door for her with a flourish, and before Sophia could say anything, he leaned in,

capturing her lips in a spontaneous, passionate kiss.

As they broke the kiss, Sophia’s cheeks flushed with a rosy hue. She looked at Alexander, her eyes

reflecting a mix of surprise and desire.

“I want you to know that I don’t make empty threats,” he grinned. “And now, if you don’t want us to be

exactly how well my clothes fit on your bedroom floor.”

Sophia, caught in the whirlwind of scenarios ying in her head, can only nod in response. Alexander

returns to his seat behind the wheel, and with a mischievous smile, he starts the car, ready to continue

the adventure of their surprise evening.
