    Chapter 109

    #109 “I won’t Bother You Anymore.”

The tension in the air crackled as Sophia crossed her arms, leaning against the doorframe. Alexander

stood awkwardly on the other side of the threshold, uncertainty etched across his face. The weight of

the unspoken words hung heavily between them.

“Look, Sophia, I need you to understand,” Alexander began.

Sophia raised an eyebrow, feigning indifference. “Understand what? That you and Megan were just

having a friendly drink and a midnight chat?” Her tone wasced with skepticism, a defense

mechanism to mask the turmoil within.

Alexander sighed, the creaking of the door echoing the tension in the room, and he ran a hand through

his hair. ” Sophia, nothing happened between us. I got drunk, and Megan helped me back here. That’s

    it.”

Sophia’s eyes narrowed, her walls still firmly in ce. “Oh, how heartwarming. You and Megan, the

best of buddies. But, really, Alexander, you expect me to believe nothing happened? You two

disappearing together, and then I find out you spent the night?”

Alexander’s frustration simmered beneath the surface. He felt the need to convey more than just

words; he needed Sophia to see the truth in his eyes. “It’s not like that. You know we have history, and

it’splicated. Butst night… it was just a mess.”

Sophia, refusing to let her guard down, shrugged nonchntly. “Complicated history, sure. But hey, it’s

none of my business who you sleep with. Friends can do that, right?”

As he searched Sophia’s eyes for a hint of understanding, Alexander’s internal thoughts raced. She

has to believe me. I can’t lose her over something that didn’t happen. How did ite to this?

“Sophia, it’s not about sleeping with her. I need you to believe me, nothing like that happened.”

Sophia’s facade wavered for a moment, but she controlled herself. “Why are you here exining

yourself to me? You are a grown up man Alexander. Do as you please.” She chuckled, a bitter edge to

    herughter.

“So, you don’t care? You don’t want to know what happened yesterday?” Alexander asked her.

    “No.”

Despite the emotional storm brewing, Sophia’s indifference cast a shadow over the room, making the

    situation even more tense.

Alexander, wearing his heart on his sleeve, had assumed that their rtionship was finally evolving.

They had navigated the ups and downs, and in his mind, it was time to take things to the next level.

Yet, the indifference radiating from Sophia hit him like a ton of bricks.

Alexander took a deep breath, ready to continue the struggle to bridge the growing gap between them.

“Sophia, I thought… I thought we were moving forward, you know? After everything we’ve been

    through.”

The subtle y of shadows on Sophia’s face revealed a flicker of vulnerability before she controlled

herself. “Moving forward? Alexander, we’re just here. Where we’ve always been. No need to read into

    things.”

Alexander’s frustration bubbled to the surface. “No need to read into things? Sophia, we’ve been

through a lot, and I thought we were on the same page.”

Sophia, seemingly unfazed, twirled a strand of her hair absentmindedly. ” Same page? Look, Alex, it’s

not thatplicated. We’re just friends, right? No need toplicate things.”

Alexander’s eyes reflected a mix of hurt and confusion. “Friends? After everything? I thought we had

    something more.”

Sophia’s indifference remained steadfast. “We’re fine the way we are. No need to make it into a big

    deal.”

For Alexander, those words were a blow to the gut. It was as if all the efforts, the shared moments, and

the hope he had invested in their connection were rendered meaningless. The room echoed with a

    heavy silence.

But in Alexander’s eyes, there was a flicker of something more-a realization that the narrative he had

crafted in his mind about their rtionship didn’t align with Sophia’s perspective. The emotional

    disconnection widened.

The air between Alexander and Sophia crackled with unspoken tension. Determined to peel away

Sophia’s calm facade, Alexander took a deep breath, ready to drop the bombshell that he hoped would

    shake her indifference.

“So, Sophia, you know what Megan proposed to mest night?” Alexander asked, his tone full with

    frustration.

Sophia, with an air of studied nonchnce, looked up from her phone. “Oh, do enlighten me,” she said,

her voice dripping with sarcasm. Her eyes met his, revealing nothing but a poker face.

Feeling a twinge of irritation, Alexander continued, “Megan proposed a marriage contract. Can you

    believe that?”

Sophia’s response was far from what he expected. She shrugged, a dismissive gesture that caught him

off guard.” Why are you telling me this? It’s none of my business, Alexander.”

Her indifference stung more than he cared to admit. “None of your business? Sophia, this involves you

too. Megan wants us to announce our engagement.

Sophia’s lips curled into a sardonic smile. “Well, if Megan wants you to wear a pink tutu and dance the

cha- cha, would that be my business too?”

Alexander’s frustration simmered beneath the surface. “Sophia, this is serious. Megan thinks it’s a good

    deal for both of us.”

Sophia crossed her arms, a picture of indifference. “Good deal? You’re a grown man, Alexander. Make

your own decisions. I couldn’t care less about your deals with Megan.”

Her coldness struck a nerve. Alexander, desperate to elicit any emotional response, pushed further.

“Don’t you have anything to say about it? Doesn’t it bother you?”

Sophia met his gaze with a cool detachment. “Bother me? Why would it? If you want to marry Megan,

    go ahead. It’s your life.”

The wordsnded like a punch to the gut, but Alexander refused to back down. “You’re lying, Sophia. I

know you better than that. There’s got to be something.”

She smiled. “You don’t know me, Alexander. And frankly, I don’t know why you’re bothering me with

    your Megan drama.”

Alexander, feeling a surge of frustration and hurt, took a step back.” Fine, Sophia. I get it. I won’t bother

    you anymore.”

As he angrily left her doorstep, mming the door behind him, Sophia’s calm exterior finally cracked.

She sank onto the couch, a mixture of emotions swirling within her. Unbeknownst to Alexander, her

indifferent facade had been a shield against the storm of conflicting feelings.

Meanwhile, Alexander, fueled by a sense of desperation, pulled out his phone and dialed Megan’s

number. “I ept your offer,” he said, the weight of his decision settling in his chest.

On the other end of the line, Megan’s voice carried triumph and satisfaction. “Smart choice, Alexander.

We’re going to be a power couple, taking control of Horizon Media Holdings. Just imagine the

    possibilities.”

Despite the gravity of his decision, a sense of emptiness lingered within Alexander. The victory Megan

painted felt hollow, and the image of Sophia’s cold indifference haunted him.
