“Let go of me.” I felt a pang in my heart, but I regained myposure the next second.
“I can’t let go. If I do, you’ll drift further and further away from me. When we first divorced, I thought you
were just mad at me and that you woulde back to me after a while. It wasn’t until our child passed
away, until you released those recordings, until you left the country without a word, that I realized I was
really losing you.” Neil’s voice was filled with regret.
I forced myself to ignore his words and tried to break free from his hold.
Facing my silence and struggle, Neil eventually let go.
I didn’t look back at him; I just walked quickly into the house, mmed the door shut behind me, and
locked it.
I didn’t know if Neil had left. I turned on all the lights and ran up to the balcony of my bedroom on the
second floor. From there, I could see the front gate. There was no sign of Neil outside the gate. He
must have left.
I felt a bit relieved I must admit, when Neil held me and said those words, my emotions were stirred.

“Are you asleep? I just got home” His gentle voice came through.
I finally calmed down, “I was about to go to sleep. What about you? Why aren’t you sleeping after
