Chapter 776 The Pain Got Worse
Vanya was in the room, looking much betterpared to a few days ago. She still could not move
around on her own and needed someone to feed her food and water, but she was better. Her gaze
was no longer as vacant as before.
Chloe picked up the banana Frieda had given her earlier and peeled it. While eating the fruit, she
watched the screen. After the helper finished feeding Vanya her lunch, thettery in bed
motionlessly. After some time had passed, just as Chloe thought that Noah would not be going to
the wing today, a slim figure suddenly came into view. She threw the banana skin into the bin and
watched the screen attentively.
When Vanya saw Noahe in, her eyes went wide as she curled into a ball and stared at him
fearfully.
"Why are you so nervous? I got you out of there. Shouldn''t you be thanking me? If not for me,
Joseph would’ve kept you locked up forever."
"No…Noah," Vanya mumbled as she tried to back away. It looked like she was facing a ferocious
monster.
Noah smiled at her. Ignoring her response, he sat beside the bed. He asked tenderly, "What''s the
matter?"
"You…" Vanya found it hard to speak as her throat had suffered heavy damage. Although she could
barely speak, it was clear that she was terrified.
Joseph and Noah wanted to know the truth. She could only choose one of them, and the other
would surely kill her.
Noah tilted his head as his eyes sparkled. "Still can’t speak?"
Zoelle was a little slow in her treatment.
Vanya then thought of something. She put her palms together and waved from time to time, asking
for something. She indicated that she would be obedient and would not speak recklessly.
Noah smiled wickedly. "Do you think I''d believe you? Why would Joseph agree to save you if you
haven’t told him anything?"
She had not betrayed him yet, but it would happen sooner orter.
Vanya stood stock-still as she stared at him with wide eyes.
Soon, Noah’s expression softened again. "Don''t worry. I took you back with me, so I promise you’ll
recover. You should know what to do, don''t you?"
Vanga nodded, though it was unknown if she was sincere or not.
Noah smiled and asked the two helpers at the door toe in. "Set up two surveince cameras on
the third floor and make sure there are no blind spots. For the first and second floors, set up one on
each.”
"Yes, Mr. Noah."
It was sunny outside, but Chloe was engulfed by a chill. She turned off the surveince video and
got up to get a cup of hot water. But her hands were trembling so much that she identally
sshed herself with the burning water. As her skin turned an angry red, she simply stared at it,
showing no response to the pain.
Vanya had not said anything in the video, but Chloe was no fool. Noah must have threatened her
into hiding how he was rted to Duskfall. Half of Joseph''s words had proven to be true. It was
unimaginable what would happen if Noah had caught her nting the spy camera the night before.
Chloe’s mind was full of unspeakable feelings—mostly shock and anger. She found it hard to ept
and was stuck in a trance. Shey on the table and recalled her past with Noah, the pain getting
worse the more she dwelled on it.
Frieda noticed Chloe’s demeanor as she passed by Chloe’s office. A confused look dawned on
Frieda’s face. It was rare to see Chloe in such a way as she usually finished her work regardless of
how tired she was. But now, she looked so dispirited. Had she suffered some kind of blow?
Frieda texted Joseph when she got back to her desk but he was upied and did not notice the
text immediately. When he finally replied, he found that Chloe was already back at the Sullivan
manor.
Joseph was confused but did not link Chloe’s attitude to the spy camera. He did not think that Noah
would not give himself away so fast. He then called Chloe, but as expected, she did not answer his
call.
